False Twista. I am well aware of the old rivalry between the Bears and Packers. I watch NFL Network a lot and they show a lot of old games and I watch them. And really, I didn't neg YOU, I negged the post. A Vikings/Bears fan in a Wisconsin sports fourm? Dude you better watch out people have been killed for less than that.

You negged someone for their choice of team they support?

Dude, I was negged for being a race fan and an arena football fan. You got it easy. And I'm sorry to say it but voice_of_reason did not need to tell everyone about it.

there was really no need to neg him either...if you have a problem negging someone...and it becoming public information...then don't neg people...simple as that...can't people have a different opinion or favorite team and still have a civil argument?

Ya know Pinetar maybe you're right. But still why voice_of_reason hates me so much now that he puts users on the spot like that when it isn't necessary I'll never know either. But regardless why is it even a big deal? What are we on a playground in grade school or something? Why can't we just let it go since all it does is alter our score which I have no idea what that is there for.

Arkansas is pretty hard core Cowboys country, with a few exceptions of course.

doing a lot of driving in Iowa, Nebraska, and South Dakota I would say that 75% of the people out here I see with football gear in one way or another are Packers fans and 20% are Bears fans with the other 5% being Minnesota fans

I have family in Indiana and Iowa, and in Iowa a lot of the people that I've seen are White Sox/Bears fans, and from what I've seen in Indiana, if they're not rootin for the Colts, they are for the Bears. I'm a well-known Bears fan around here, and I can't stand the Packers, but actually like the Vikings a little.

Now, why would you neg this post, MWarrior?

I guess I really only travel through Iowa on my way to Nebraska and live on the western border of Iowa but I see a ton of people with packer bumper stickers or tire covers for the packers...it was kind of a shock because I figured everyone out here was either a vikings or chiefs fan...

Yeah, the few times I've been down to Iowa was in the Des Moines area, which is closer to Chicago I guess. I went down there a couple weeks ago to play in a softball tournament and a lot of the people I talked to were really excited about Cutler being signed. But once you get over to the Western part of the state I could see the fans changing color just due to the fact that it's further away from the city of Chicago.

One thing I really don't get, is why people across the country would love the Packers so much. I'm not saying it isn't true, or that it shouldn't be, I just don't understand why.

And why would you neg that MWarrior??? not cool

America's team is the team that has the most fans spread throughout the country. Where can you go that's not where they play, and still see their merchandise being worn?

1. Dallas
2. Pittsburgh
3. Green Bay

Those are the three teams this really boils down to. This pointless debate has everything to do with popularity. The stats do factor into the equation, because in order to be popular you need to be a winner, but the stats aren't the deciding factor. Fans are the deciding factor.

Geography has something to do with it, because if you're closer to one team, chances are you like that team. I think to decide this, you need to poll people from states like....

North/South Dakota
Wyoming
Nevada
Arkansas
Alabama
West Virginia
New Hampshire

Anywhere that does have a team of their own. I would guess Dallas comes out #1.

Well, based on this survey the Dakotas go to the Vikings, Wyoming goes to the Broncos, West Virginia to the Steelers. And with seeing the MLB/NBA allegiences of the others you listed it would probably be similar for the NFL, I would suppose.

Okay, MWarrior.... I was going to just sit back and let it go, but now I see you want a response. So... here's some very friendly advice from someone who lives a mere 10 minutes from you:

1) I don't hate you. I can count on one hand the number of people I've truly HATED in the past 20 years.

2) It's a personal pet peeve of mine when people neg a post that obviously doesn't deserve it. Sure... if the poster's being a tool, or just won't let something go - fire away. But to neg someone because he's a fan of the bears or vikes? Come on...

3) A pretty good rule of thumb that a lot of the old wily vets around here follow is a great example. If someone puts a lot of thought into their post, or if it's just a great point (even if you disagree), or (my personal favorite) when they totally own the other side of the argument -- give 'em a +2. Otherwise, stay away from the negs unless it's in line with #2 above.

and finally (spill over from the WCB):

4) Stop posting just to post. Stop asking why people hate you, why you can't get respect. You have to earn the respect by showing you have thought and clarity over time. We've seen so many who come on here, they're unstable, then they flame out... eventually getting banned because they make it personal. It's a website devoted to sports and sports opinions. It shouldn't get personal unless you take it as such.

Just relax, keep the chatter to the topic, and all will be well in WSN-land. And, if all else fails... step away for a day or two to allow cooler heads to prevail.

Now, as r/k would say: get off my lawn!! []
