Anyone have any details on this one? We know E-Town won 32-26, both teams had injured players...anyone have a run down?

Speaking of halftime bands, as a former MBC "band geek" (at least i played drums) im kind of curious how the Prescott band did tonight in their field show at halftime. Anybody there that saw it??

Well...come on it is Ellsworth...I grew up there, and when we win in anything, it is a big deal, especially when it is against the defending state runners up...and a kid that ran for over 350 yards last week. That is quite the accomplishment. I am not saying that they shouldv'e been cocky or anything, but put yourself in that picture. A team that beat you 66-36 last year...

I've noticed the same crap from Ellsworth. They are cocky, and they are poor sports, whether they win or lose. In our game they were yelling stuff up to the fans during the middle of the game. Now that you mention it, it is as if the players are running the show.

They don't have the discipline to make it very far in the playoffs, that's for sure.

It's too bad the teams were so beat up, still came out to be a great game I guess.

The teams weren't so beat up, Somerset was beat up. Ellsworth had, from what i could tell, every starter. Somerset was missin Guerkink, Kowalski, and Troutmiller. That's huge. Somerset is not deep at any position to start with and when you lose players that are as significant as the three mentioned it's hard to keep winning. Take out three of the best players on any team and watch them struggle. Not an excuse for losing, just a reason. If Larson and CO. get Kowalski and Troutmiller back next week...look out. Congrats to Ellsworth because you have to show up to win against any team. Now for having good sportsmanship.......

Sorry to hear he decided not to shake hands because he does not respect the program. Sure lots of programs have a kid or two that are sometimes goofballs, but that is tough to say all or most of the kids are like that. I'm sure Ellsworth has more than murphy and sweig that are class acts. Maybe he will respect them more now that they have beaten them. I've seen several programs get excited about winning and raising their helmets in the air, high 5's, chest bumping, pointing to crowd, and singing their school song. Does he not shake their hands either? They all should be excited. Maybe its something personal with "soccer guy", which I'm assuming is a coach. Anyways not the class act I would expect from a good program and the class act of somerset.

From my view: Coach Larson went across and shook coach Bekkum's hand and said good game. Larson then went back to his own sideline(where the EHS players were just finishing shaking hands), and witnessed the first 3-4 players bow and make gestures to the Somerset crowd. A coach from EHS was right there, and and never told the EHS players to quit and get back to their own side or endzone (maybe that's the head coaches job or something?). Then the EHS coach wanted to shake coach Larson's hand, and coach Larson didn't want to after he witnessed that particular coach allow the EHS players to do that. Again, this is what I saw, and I don't want to put words in coach Larson's mouth.

On another note: EHS has some really talented players, and some players that are good character kids(#22, 10, 66, & some more). A few of them don't know if they are playing football or cheering or directing their own band! I believe if they take care of some of the antics, they can do well in the post season(obviously they need to get in first).

Second note: I thought the bald coach with the goatee and track suit called a great game on offense, and Bekkum did a much better job with the defense.

Oh, forgot to add congrats to EHS on the victory.

Like a said a few kids can spoil a great victory and certainly bowing to the opposing crowd as you are finishing the sportsmanship shake is disrespectful. That is too bad. Ellsworth players and staff you are the only ones who can change this. Great victory for program, biggest in years only to end on sour note for some somerset fans. On another note. Man I missed 3/4 games last nite. Ouch!!! That can't be good. Osceola stepped up with big victory and sounds like a great game. Prescott youngs guns prove strong against BW. I had them all wrong. S&P there appears to be a lot of teams that control their own destiny. Osceola,Somerset,Durand,Ellsworth,NR All appear to have to win in order to get in to playoffs. Some more than others.

If Somerset was to win the conference title again this year I would rank this as arguably the top accomplishment for the program since Bruce Larson became the head coach, obviously besides winning a state title in '01 or '02 (can't remember). When you consider all the adversity this team has had to endure since even last spring (transfers, injuries, position switches, freshman having to step in and be leaders, etc) it would be amazing if they were to pull it off again this year.

This is exactly how it went.. Exactly.. I was the first person to shake every player and every coaches hand, the first one threw the line.. after I went threw I turned to look for Coach Larson to shake his hand I turned my back to the line.. My back was to the rest of the players that went thru I did not see anyone Bow, gesture, etc,, I am not saying that it didn't happen... but in film this morning I addressed it and told the players if I find out wich individual did this there will be consequences.. I explained that it is classless and wrong.. What is also classless and wrong however,,, is to accuse me of turning a "blind eye" I have always had respect for somerset and have "bragged about there system and program to other conferences.. I have sat on there sideline at state and root for them... AS for calling me "Pele" ya I wear shorts at the game I have never not worn shorts I will continue to wear shorts it is a tradition with me and I will not change becauase some so called "adults" want to mock me for it... If that makes you fell better so be it..

As far as history with me and Coach Larson ... after last years game he got into it with our J.V coach.... Our coach thought he didn;t have to poor on 63 points... The only words I said to coach Larson was good luck in Madison.. He thought I was bieng sarcastic.. I wasn't I knew they were good and I was rooting for them... I guess the bottom line is.. I know it is tough to lose to a team you expect to beat but don't start accusing me of things that are totally untrue... That is Bush league.. if you want to call me names "Pele", SOccer guy ,,, that is fine.. But don't accuse me of turning a blind eye... we also have more than two class acts on are team.. you talk about Swieg and Murphy because they are in the spotlight.. but most of are kids are stand up kids... and we are working hard at developing the characters of our "fringe kids" we have the coaching for lives program etc. mentoring.. It is easy to say these things after a loss...
Watcher said :"Great game called by the bald guy in the black jumpsuit" He is actually a friend of mine that was in town for a class reunion.. He is the former head coach of Rhinelander.. He never called a single play last night in fact he got to the game late... the score was 24-6 when he arrived... but it was nice to see him and ask his opinion on some things...
It was also nice to talk to Kowalski, and some of the other Somerset Players in the hallway.. they are a classy bunch of kids and I am always pulling for the mbc in the playoffs and beyond..... If you think I am part of the problem here with kids attutudes You are dead wrong ... If anyone has a problem with our kids and there conduct they should contact the Head coach!! There was plenty of opportunity in passing in the hall and after the game... don;t jump the offensive coordinator.. Now you know the entire story..

London and Murphy played. I got there early second and score was 24-6. I would have swore Somerset was winning cause Ellsworth Fans were just dead. I mean come on fans you are beating one of the best programs in western wi and that is the best you can do. Somerset came back to make is 24-20 at halftime with a couple of interceptions. It's like Ellsworth was in shock they were winning and so was the crowd. Somersets fights like champions to get back into it. Ellsworth holds Somerset and scores on passing plays and finally QB keeper to take a 32-20 lead early fourth and are able to hold on. It poured late 4th making passing very difficult, but Somerset scores with 1:00 somthing left. Missing 2pt conversion, onside kick no good and Ellsworth knees for victory. Somerset very aggressive on knees and obviously not happy they lost. (of course). Good game for Ellsworth and program. Heard Larson was not too happy, decided not to shake hands with some of opponents. I hope not true, but understand frustration. Big game by London. Give credit to Defense. They did enough to hold on.
