Duke's backcourt just took a hit when Elliot Williams informed Coach K that he will be transferring closer to his home in Memphis, Tenn. due to unspecified medical reasons.

This is a shock, but completely understood given the circumstances within his family. He is a talented player and will be great wherever he ends up.

Likely destinations? It seems Memphis makes the most sense. Another destination could be UAB, which is in close proximity to Memphis...

Duke is now down to 2 guards on their roster and 8 scholarship players for 09-10 year. This is going to be one rough year for them. I hope all goes well with williams, good player and i wish the best for him and his family.

My guess will be either Tennessee, Memphis, or UAB will be likely destinations.
watcha thinking about that

Reading around, it seems the only information anyone has is that his mother is very ill. If that is the case, I see no other place that he will go other than Memphis.

Duke fans on Devils Illustrated are obviously feeling for Elliot Williams, but in the big scheme of things on the court are not too optimistic. Elliot Williams departing leaving Duke puts a huge hole in that backcourt. Jon Scheyer and Nolan Smith are talented players, but are not true PGs. They are the only two scholarship guards on this team for next season.
Like someone said on Devils Illustrated, "Nolan, Scheyer and Singler better be getting into marathon shape because I don't think either of them will see less than 35 minutes per game."
Duke fans also think that Coach K needs to pursue Austin Kelly in getting him to walk-on once the football season ends. Kelly was a pretty talented athlete in high school, receiving an offer in basketball from Va Tech. BUT, he chose to play football at Duke.

Duke will be looking to fill a few more scholarships for 2010. Coach K needs Kyrie Irving desperately to feel like his backcourt can be complete with the departure of Jon Scheyer after this season. He would be a great addition and fits the mold of a combo guard. Him and Dawkins in the same class would be great for Coach K.

Finally some good news coming out of the Duke camp. Dawkins is coming a year early. [headbang]

I may be wrong, but I doubt it "I do have one question: Have you ever seen Gollum, John Clayton and Sam Cassell in the same place before?" - Charles Barkley

Thank god, I was just talking to my roommate tonight (who is also a Duke fan) about how thin our backcourt is and how difficult that's going to be. Scheyer can play some point, Nolan better be ready to play a ton of minutes next season, but with this addition, I think Duke is back to elite status.

There is nothing I'd like more than to see the Badgers send the Blue Devils packing, back to North Carolina, in December, on national TV no less. Not probable, but certainly becoming more possible.

Great news for Duke. That backcourt along with the minutes of Smith, Scheyer, and Singler were not looking too good...
