St. Croix Central is ready for the Middle Border without a question. I would be willing to bet they will be competitive from the get go. It will help them be better prepared for the post season. I would much rather make the trip to Hammond then the trip to Durand any day of the week.

It is looking like this is on the Agenda at the WIAA level Jan 28. I heard it is a done deal and would be surprising if it doesn't go through.

So is SCC ready to compete in the MBC?

Judging from the performances we are seeing in many MBC sports the last few years, SCC will do just fine. That is my prediction.

I agree. Like any school they may take their lumps in a few sports but they will do fine.

Haven't gotten to it on BOC agenda yet.

Definitely kind of stings to leave the Middle Border after competing in it for almost 50 years. However, with the enrollments of the two schools going in the completely opposite directions, it had to be done. Durand has kind of been overwhelmed going up against bigger schools the past couple years in a few sports in my opinion. Hard to believe the enrollment there has dropped by almost half of what it was in 2000.

I agree with all of this. Its a shame in many aspects, but, makes a lot of sense.

SCC will slide into the conference rather easily. Their enrollment is similar to B-W and it creates a great 4 mile rivalry!

I am pretty certain more changes will come as New Richmond continues to grow. Will it be in 2 years? Who knows, but that will be the next move for sure. I can't imagine a "swap" like SCC/Durand, maybe just they move out.

New Richmond to the Big Rivers will happen within the next few years. I wonder if there is a chance of the Middle Border picking up anyone else? Distance/Enrollment are there really any options?

Deb Hauser specifically said during discussion of SCC/Durand swap that New Richmond would be "next one to move". Now, I don't think that'll be for a while yet. A BOC member said something off-hand about a swap with Rice Lake, and Deb gave him a look and said something to the tune of, "Yeah, well you try telling Rice Lake that."

This is a fantastic move in my opinion. It makes sense on both an enrollment and geography matter. Durand already has a built-in rivalry with Mondovi in the DSC. St Croix Central will get to play plenty of teams closer to home now.

New Richmond in the Big Rivers could be a straight-up move... they wouldn't have to swap with anyone. But, that's nothing happening in the near future from what I can tell from talking to coaches and administrators, a few of whom have connections to Eau Claire. It's pretty much a wash geographically, but I don't really get the sense Rice Lake is exactly pining to leave the Big Rivers either. They've been very competitive and playing "up" has given them some valuable experience come playoff time in some sports (football comes to mind). I don't think New Richmond -> BRC is a slam dunk... or even a layup. That one will take some time.

But, again, good on Durand and St Croix Central for making the swap. Makes a lot of sense!

I don't see New Richmond moving out of the Middle Border without some kind of corresponding move. The WIAA, and the leagues, do not like an odd number of teams due to the scheduling issues it causes, mostly in football.

Rice Lake apparently has changed its tune in the last 24 months with its success. Imagine that. New Richmond needs to get to the BRC to have any chance of competing in WIAA tourney action. I also give a huge kudos to the new Activities Director at SCC for having the balls to push his agenda forward his first year on the job. Great move for his school. Hopefully no school gets into whiny mode over this and it can be formally approved at the March meeting of the WIAA.
St Croix moved to Minnesota. He is now dead to me. R.I.P.

This move makes sense. Durand's enrollment seems to be plummeting. The participation rates for male athletics are down. I hope nobody in the district tries to hold on to past success as a reason NOT to make this go through. The DSC is a much better fit.

The school has recently graduated some solid male athletes, but have only a very average run of classes to follow. Their 2012 Football Team was fun to watch and follow. They ran the table in the MBC knocking off Somerset and were one of the best teams in this part of the state for schools their size. Did any of those kids from that group go on to play football (Weber, Auth Boys, Minturn, Schade, Besterveld, Hoch, Tomlison)? Their basketball team was solid also.

SCC has to be happy. They may take some lumps early in a few sports, but their teams will be far more successful come tournament time after playing better competition in the MBC.

Weber playing football at Eau Claire..Schade I believe went to throw somewhere but injured shoulder...That's all I know.
