...and Rice Lake is the top seed. I thought assuming no upsets was just a given in this thread.

How many years have you followed HS basketball? If you think "assuming" no upsets was the norm, you haven't a clue.

i think rice lake's (or any team from that regional) probable road to the state tournament will be filled with great games.

Regional championship vs. Altoona or Baldwin-Woodville
Sectional semifinal vs. Hayward/Spooner/New Richmond
Sectional final vs. Adams-Friendship

that's a good lineup of games

Smile,,,from on the girls side:

In 221 games played throughout the state's four divisions, higher seeds won 195. In Division 1 favorites went 47-4. In D2: 44-7. In D3: 50-8. In D4: 54-7.

Burlington and La Crosse Central, both seeded 12th, edged fifth seeds in D1.

Sixteen of the 26 'upsets' featured fifth seeds beating fourth seeds. Another six involved sixth seeds besting thirds. The last: a No. 8 over No. 9 in Division 1

I got confused about what thread I was in I'm sorry...I changed my post about 10 seconds after I posted it though. What I really meant is that the Adams-Frendship v. Rice Lake game would be the best prospective game possible.

Why would it be the best? The Dells last night proved they can play with AF. Rice Lake was beat by a team that was beat by others in their region.

Not saying RL isn't good, but in their region alone, you have 3 teams that could be very good match-ups.

Rice Lake went 19-1 with their only loss by one point in the first game without one of their leading scorers. I think that's a pretty nice achievement

I am really looking forward to watching Rice Lake and hopefully Altoona play. They have developed a sort of rivalry after big games in the last two years. I think whoever makes it out of that regional will do very well in the playoffs, with Rice Lake in my opinion making it to the sectional final

I like how 18-2 Baldwin-Woodville has been pushed to the side by most people. (The fishwrapper last week have RL and Altoona fighting it out to go to state already!)

Like B-W made the mistake of doing for Altoona 3 years ago, I think a number of people are doing for B-W this year. Creating a lot of locker room fodder to tape on the wall.

Rice Lake is the number one team in d2 and AF is what, 5th? Is that not the highest ranked possible matchup before state? Now I think the Toona-RL game will be fantastic, but I think that the added prospect of the winner going to state in the AF-RL game turns it into a better game. I'm not saying the Toona game will be bad, I just don't understand how it could be considered better than the (possible) RL-AF game.

The WIAA should just move RL and Altoona into the Regional finals. No one has a chance.[]

Dude chill...you're just nitpicking. I hope Toona loses...I don't want Rice Lake to have to play Manor again--if they make it of course I wouldn't want to give anyone bullitein board material.

St. Croix, I am not counting B-W out of anything.. they are a great team and the prospective regional game between Altoona and B-W will be as good as any, I just think that Altoona will win it and then play Rice Lake - another great game. In my opinion, Altoona has a deeper roster and more overall talent from top to bottom than Baldwin-Woodville does. But who knows, since afan posted all of those upset stats, maybe Rice Lake will lose to Bloomer and Altoona and B-W won't even make it out of the first game. These are all people's opinions of great teams and who they think will win the D2 state championship - teams are bound to get overlooked and left out of people's predictions. Just chill

All this locker room talk is a little premature. I know that Altoona just wants to win their first game. They almost got put out last year in an early game and know every game will be a dog fight.

I think Rice Lake is a lock to make it to the regioanl final game on Saturday. The Altoona and B-W game is a toss up, but regardless of who wins, the Regional final location should be moved. The regional final in Augusta last year (Altoona / Durand) and the previous year (Altoona / B-W) sold out. Rice Lake has twice as many students and fans. The Spring Valley gym will not accomodate all the fans that will want to attend the game. Why do they schedule D2 regional championships in smaller gyms knowing they can not accomodate all the fans that will want to attend?

Its kind of a weird deal. They host school has to offer to host. Meaning, if they move the game say to Amery, Spring Valley staff would be responsible for everything (tickets, concession, security, etc....) Both B-W and Altoona bring huge fan bases and I agree, Spring Valley can probably seat at a MAX 1200 people (with bleachers on the ends).

I have never understood why say a D2 regional final was held in a D3 (or D4 as in the case of Augusta).
