Many of the seeding meetings took place Saturday, but everything was made official by the WIAA on Sunday. The sectional semifinal is comprised of a couple different teams than the girls. Again, Luther is the only D4 team, and the rest are in the southern semifinal of Section 1 in D3.

In order of seed with current record:
1. Stratford: 19-0 (15-0)
2. Wisconsin Dells: 15-5 (8-1)
3. Mauston: 14-4 (7-2)
4. Westby: 14-5 (8-3)
5. G-E-T: 11-9 (8-3)
6. West Salem: 9-11 (7-4)
7. Altoona: 7-13 (6-7)
8. Adams-Friendship: 6-11 (3-5)
9. Viroqua: 6-13 (4-6)
10. Black River Falls: 4-16 (2-9)
11. Arcadia: 4-14 (1-9)
12. Nekoosa: 3-16 (1-7)

7. Luther: 11-9 (7-3)
8. Aquinas
(I don’t care enough to do that entire sectional semifinal in D4, so I just did the two only teams I care for.)

Because Westby was able to beat G-E-T by 1 in overtime, they were most deserving of that 4 seed. This sets up a great likely rematch between the two at Westby, where G-E-T previously won by 4. If G-E-T wins, they get a rematch at Stratford, who they play this week at home. West Salem has a good chance at a rematch with Mauston, who they also play this week, if they beat Arcadia. Overall, I am not surprised by any seedlings in the main group of Coulee teams.

Luther being a 7 seed in D4 shocks me, and what is even more shocking is that Aquinas was given the 8 seed. Both of these teams play a very tough conference and non-conference schedule with mostly D2 and D3 teams. Had they been given the 5 and 6 seeds respectively, I would expect them to beat the 4 and 3 seeds easily in the regional semifinals. Since they will play the 2 and 1 seeds, I’m not sure they can pull off any upsets, which is unfortunate because they play up 1 to 2 divisions all year to prepare for the playoffs. To be fair, their section is very tough, but I don’t think the Heights or Cuba City are better than both Luther and Aquinas. Had I made the seedings, I would have put Aquinas at 5 and Luther at 6. But I’m not a coach who argues at a meeting, so I guess it doesn’t really matter what I think.
