I know it's not very likely to happen, as a dramatic schedule change isn't likely to get worked out when the WIAA has more important things to deal with... such as deciding whether fans can paint their chests at games or not, but what people's thoughts on having a conference tournament at the end of the regular season schedule before the State tournament ala college hoops?

You would have to get it to count outside of the 22 games per season, as a team that loses in the first round isn't going to be willing to simply give up 2 or more games they could have played, but other than that I think it would be great. You would get some intense games and atmosphere, it would give you a great chance to build momentum going into the play-offs, and it would give the players a chance to interact with each other more, plus watch likely the best conference game of the year.

Sorry, but conference tournaments are done at the college level for one reason - money. At this point money does not drive athletics at the high school level, nor should it. I think it is a huge ripoff to a team that worked hard all year to win their conference only to lose the tournament because they played one bad game. Also, bad teams already get another shot in high school ball by virtue of the fact that everybody is eligible for the WIAA tournament.

I wish they would get rid of them at the college level but that will never happen.

The biggest problem is just getting more games. Instead of adding a "Conference Tournament" most coaches would probably like the ability to add more non-conference games.

I love conference tournys at the college level. I dont think march is as great as it is without the conference tournys. I love seeing the cinderella 6 seed win its conference tourny and make it in the field of 65.
