Quote:
The Indiana High School Athletic Association says schools reported more than 1,200 concussions among athletes taking part in the five-month fall sports season.

The IHSAA says football players suffered nearly 70 percent of the reported 1,219 concussions, followed by girls and boys soccer players.

This is the first year of the IHSAA's voluntary system for reporting concussions, so the group doesn't have any comparison figures. Concussion reports were submitted by 189 of the association's 410 schools.

I saw a breakdown by sport elsewhere, but that's kind of beside the point - which is that in voluntary reporting by the member high schools, there's an average of 6.4 concussions per HS (ignoring size differences) for just the fall season. I wouldn't expect that rate to continue for the winter and spring sports, but it gives some context on how frequent kids are suffering concussions.
I'm not saying some things the WIAA does are wrong, ... I'm just saying, "I find it weird."

189 of 410 schools reported 1200 concussions. That is 2600 concussions using 1200/189 x 410. That's a a lot.
