Just wondering what people thought about the opening night of college basketball. I have been waiting, for what seems like forever for this night to get here. I realize they weren't stellar matchups but it is nice to see some games that matter a little.

I thought UNC was just ok. I hope there are more than 3 teams that are better than them. Deon Thompson, Ed Davis, and Larry Drew looked pretty good. The newcomers, John Henson, David and Travis Wear, Leslie McDonald, and Dexter Strickland looked a little shaky. It is alway tough in the first game, but the best part of these early season games is always watching the freshman.

OSU had a nice win over Alcorn State. Evan Turner was a monster with the second triple double in OSU history. He almost had it in the first half. Diebler continues his great three point shooting and Buford was solid on the wing. The big question is the front court. Lighty was ok but is not big enough to matchup with a frontcourt like UNC's which they will face coming up. Lauderdale did not play so it is tough to tell how much he has improved. They will have to try to neutralize opposing front courts with their 3-2 zone that is susceptible to struggles against well coached teams.

Syracuse looks like they alway do. They play that soft zone which can be picked apart pretty easily by good teams. They do have some crazy athletes and will always be a pretty good offensive team because of their talent and size.

Looking forward to checking out the guard-heavy Cal team next. They have some really nice pieces between Jerom Randle, Patrick Christopher, and Theo Robertson. Their question mark is the front court. They are very small up front.

Where are you watching all the games? My roommates and I have been looking for links online. We dont get ESPN U up here, so I suppose that could be the issue.

I'm in the same boat, but I found a feed of espnu on justin.tv.

Here is the link. The feed is a little shaky but not bad.

Its the first game of the season, so I don't know how much we can take from it, but OSU played great while UNC struggled a little. I'm pumped for that match up. Get a little preview of the Big Ten-ACC challenge. UNC has two more games to get ready and OSU has just one. Because it is at OSU and really early in the year I think they have a really good chance to win this game. I'll give them over 50% even.

OSU has a little more experience and Evan Turner is unbelievable. 14-17-10. Wow. I'm buying the Big Ten this year right out of the gates. (Although when do I not buy the Big Ten?)

I believe the game will be at Madison Square Garden.

I am in the same boat on the Big Ten. It could be a really amazing year and maybe two years considering almost every top player in the league is a junior and almost none are early entry guarantees. Evan Turner is the only one who is almost a guarantee. The '07 class is the gift that keeps on giving for the Big 10.

Wow did not know that, it said @OSU, but its the Coaches vs Cancer Classic. I'll say 50% then. I would love to see Evan Turner on the Bucks. Pair BJ with a big athletic SG. What a great backcourt for the future that would be.

Did anyone else catch the announcer during the North Carolina game saying that the Big Ten is the best conference in the country this year? Wasn't sure if I misheard it but, I swear thats what he said.

OSU looks legit. Turner is a beast and im a big fan of Diebler. calm, smart, and can straight up swack.
It seems like Cuse is always a little slow out of the gates (le moyne specifically, not too weak tonight) but they will be a mid-to-top (5-8) big east time eventually.
Cal is a very good team and Murray State is no joke but i still think 12 is too high for the bears.
carolina is a top 4 ACC squad but overrated in the top 10 nationally.
I'll take Ohio St. over nc by a dime.

We did that, his name is Jodie Meeks.

Meeks is no Evan Turner. He is actually a little short to play SG in the NBA, and isn't known for his athleticism. You will never see the day that Meeks pulls down 17 boards. He will also struggle defensively against NBA SGs.
