From the New Richmond News:

Former New Richmond boys basketball assistant coach Rick Montreal has been hired as the new Tiger varsity boys coach.

Montreal?s teaching contract was approved at a New Richmond school board meeting last Thursday. He was interviewed for the basketball coaching position on Friday and his coaching contract was approved at a school board meeting Monday night.
Montreal steps into the teaching position he left three years ago at the New Richmond Middle School. Patrick Olson, who was the boys varsity coach last winter, was Montreal?s successor as a sixth grade teacher.
?He?s a known quantity,? said New Richmond athletic director John Ball. ?He?s an excellent teacher, he was a scholar-athlete at UW-River Falls, he knows the Middle Border and Big Rivers (conferences). It should be a fairly smooth transition.?
There have been five different varsity coaches in the Tiger boys program in the past five years. Ball said that wasn?t fair to the athletes, so the school administration was looking for someone who would bring stability to the position.
?He was a great teacher, we hated to see him go. Can he coach basketball? That?s an added plus,? Ball said.
Montreal is a graduate of UW-River Falls, where he was a three-time all-WIAC player and was an NAIA All-American in 1991. He scored 1,795 points in his career with the Falcons, ranking him 17th in conference history.
Montreal still has the UW-RF record for free throw percentage (.817), ranks third in assists (345), is the fourth leading scorer (1,795), and is fourth in career field goals made (982).

in career scoring average (16.6).

Brad Bestor, a Fond du Lac native, was recently hired at Kettle Moraine high school to be their boys' bsketball coach. He played high school ball for Dick Diener and college ball for Lou Henson at New Mexico State. He was an assistant coach at Vincent with Tom Diener for 3 seasons from 2002 until 2005, last season he assisted at Germantown with Coach Showalter. He may be the best young coach in the state!

I didn't know that Crivitz had an opening. I did see that Ellsworth is looking for a new head coach. Not sure why Coach Renta is leaving, because I chatted with him at the AAU tourney in Menomonie and he said he was excited about the upcoming players. Anyways keep us posted on who is coming and going please.

Cory Brathol has been hired as the Ellsworth boys basketball coach. He is a graduate of St. Croix Central and a graduate of Northern Michigan University where he played basketball and is the schools all-time leading scorer. I've know Cory for a long time and I think he will do good as a coach. We know just being good at basketball doesn't make you a good coach, but he is a good teacher of the game. I think Ellsworth is lucky to have him.
