Gilman in a rout .

DF why do you think this is going to be a rout. I think these two teams match up well. Balanced offenses both run and pass very well, speed vs power. Smash-mouth vs fineness. The only team Gil has played outside of he CW was Cornell. I saw Cornell play and they would have been a good match with Greenwood in the CW this year. McD got spanked by Regis which is a very good team, and dominated teams from the Lakeland's N & Small (not saying much there either). Two old Small CB teams hammering on each other again I really think this is going to be the best game in the area. The Edgar game would be nice just to get another look at Edgar's D. See if the Midgets can better the season ave of 43 yds against them.

I have a question: Why don't they try to play these games at different times/days so all of us football junkies don't have to pick want game to go to, especially at level 4. I for one try to attend every game I can from the start of the playoffs. If your listening MORE REVENUE WIAA!

Gilman in a rout because they are better .

The Macks have had a nice season but have played nobody even close to Gilman during the playoffs . ... Gilman in my opinion came out of much tougher bracket , I would also have picked whoever beat Gilman in this spot against the Macks .

Looking at the Macks regular season who did they actually beat of consequence ?

They only way the Macks beat Gilman is if Davis has a John Elway like night , the Macks will get nothing running .

If nobody from the Cloverwood could run on Gilman then neither will the Macks .

Just because the Macks play in the Marawood does not make them Edgar level .

Id give the slight edge to Gilman.
I see it being a game like last years. McD wins the yardage battle, but Gilman capitalizes on mismatches and scores more touchdowns

In all fairness, Mcd came out of a little bit harder region, not Gilman
McD- Elmwood, Plum City, and Frederick
Gilman-Cornell, Loyal, Owen Withee

Gilman played 2 conference teams and lets just say the cloverwood teams havent really played competition outside their conference.

Elmwood and Frederick were a little weak, but I think could have matched up well against all three of Gilmans teams. Plum City was a quality team

McDonell 27
Gilman 8

Final

Sounds like the Macks' passing offense and run defense were too much for Gilman to overcome.

Great game, not as close as I thought it would be. I expected Gilman to at least put up some type of fight against a very good McD team, but they did not, as McD dominated every aspect of the game. Gilman had a great year, but I think 10-11 will be a better year for them. McD's defense was just too good for them to get get anything going. The biggest surprise was the team speed of McD, everyone know McD was bigger and more physical than Gil, but their speed to the ball was outstanding. Cody had less than 30 yds rushing and their only score was a busted play in the Mcd secondary. Having seen McD and other top teams play I knew they had one of the best run defenses in the area, what really surprised me as I go soaked by the constant drizzle was Gil's inability to throw the ball.
I know everyone is going to say what about the Regis game? When several of the starters were sitting on the sidelines that was big factor. Hopefully McD is healthy as one of their LB's was taken off the field. Gil also lost a couple of players Zach appeared to have broken arm and others were coming out of the game limping. McD can bring it. Now what can they do Thurs?

Kudos to the Macks .

They did three things that I thought they were incapable of ...

1. Run offense .
2. Run defense .
3. Beat anybody good .

Didn't they have a couple turnovers near the goal line?

According to the Chippewa Herald in was a 15 -8 game in the 3rd qtr with each team being turned away on the goaline .

Hardly domination from the onset as some would have us believe .

Yeah, Gilman had a couple of golden opportunities that they couldn't capitalize on. The first happened after the Mac's punter bobbled the snap and was taken down at the 8 yard line. Gilman couldn't get the ball in the endzone and ended up missing a field goal. Then after an amazing effort by the Mac's receiver where he caught a ball that was tipped and bobbled in the air for about a 40 yard gain, the Mac's were on the board first.

Then later in the game when it was 15-8, Gilman had the ball on the Mac's 7 or 8 and threw a pass play which was completed and then fumbled when they were at the inch line. That was the play of the game because whatever momentum Gilman had they totally lost all of it.

Give tons of credit to McDonell though. They had a very solid line and Rubenzer is one of the better lineman (on both sides) in the area. Overall they just made more plays than the Pirates did.

As for the McDonell linebacker, sounded like he it was his MCL. Don't know the severity of it, but that's what I heard after the game.

Overall, great season for the Pirates! Hopefully they can use this in the offseason to come back with a little bit of fire in them, especially because they have a good core coming back next year.

Congrats to the Macs and good luck at state!

I've sat here and watched everyone on this forum say that McDonell doesn't have what it takes to win. Well, I was at that game last night and I saw what went down. Gilman is a good team and will be better next year for sure. McDonell is by far the better team this year. Rosemeyer shut down to 26 yards... they had their opportunities to capitalize on some mistakes and penalties, but McDonell shut them down. You can say what you want, but to have Gilman NOT score at all in the first half was just as big as a blowout. They were not used to NOT scoring...that does a lot to a team's ability to snap out of it. I am in no way a football fanatic, but give the Macks the credit they deserve. They against ALL of your odds won against Gilman because they played better football. GO MACKS!!! WIN STATE!!!
