Does this mean that Bill Rentmeester is the new Badger FB, or have they recruited someone to play ahead of him?

Rentmeester is the new #1, followed by Barron product Josh Balts.

What a bummer, I was looking forward to watching this beast get some more playing time. Luckily he still has a reshirt to use, so next year when he comes back he'll still be a junior.

He would have gotten a medical redshirt anyway.

UPDATE: Bielema talks about Pressley

Madison
- Bill Rentmeester's value to the University of Wisconsin football team just grew exponentially.

With projected starter Chris Pressley out for most if not all of the 2006 season with a lower leg injury suffered during practice this morning, Rentmeester has taken over as UW's No. 1 fullback. The third-year sophomore from Beaver Dam has yet to start a game at UW but played in eight games in 2005, most after starter Matt Bernstein was lost for the season with an injury. Pressley started three games last season and played in 12.

"Chris is someone who factored into our game plan," UW coach Bret Bielema said today after practice. "But the next man has to be available. Billy Rentmeester I thought had a really good camp, especially in the last week.

"We're sorry for Chris, but it's an opportunity for somebody to step forward."

Fourth-year junior Josh Balts worked with the second-team offense at practice today but he won't necessarily be the No. 2 fullback for the season-opener on Sept. 2.

Running backs coach John Settle said last week backup tailback Dywon Rowan could play fullback because of his size (5-foot-9 and 241 pounds) and smarts.

"He is big enough to play either position," Settle said, "if you choose to do something with him at the fullback spot."

Bielema reiterated that possibly today and added a reserve linebacker, whom he chose not to name, could shift to fullback.

"We'll explore those options in the days ahead," he said.
