What's up fellas, I'm back home for the holidays Miss my wissports!! I've had to go to China for extended work and the areas I go are quite remote unfortunately. So give me an update on the North and South. Not much activity on the board, took a look at scores....looks like I missed a classic between Marshall and Lodi. So are they clearly the best 2 teams in league, heck are they the best 2 teams in D3? Looks like Shea and Ward are living up to their hype.

Regardless of divisions, Lodi and Marshall are clearly the two best of the 12 Capitol teams. It's a damn shame that they have to play each other in sectionals if it goes that far. I'd say either team is a good bet to go to state in D3 and potentially win it.

Some teams are having trouble, especially the teams in the Cap. South. Other than Marshall, Heights is the only team at .500 right now.

Ouch! I didn't look that close at records. I find it interesting that a couple years ago both Marshall and Lodi made it to state, and had they both won, would have played for a state title, Magically the next year they find themselves in the same sectional. Typical WIAA move.

There's a possibility Marshall could find themselves back in the SE bracket for D3 because Racine St. Cats (whom Marshall beat to get to state in '12, ironically) dropped down to D4, but I wouldn't know that for sure off the top of my head. Hopefully, that's the case!

Edgerton and Lakeside in Marshall's half bracket, Lodi and Edgewood loom in the top half. Tough draw for both schools.

Right before playoffs, Marshall will play at home in a crossover game with Lakeside on 2/21. Have an eye on that game....

The last few minutes in the fourth period were pretty hectic and the ending itself certainly caused a stir. I didn't make it to the game due to the road conditions that were atrocious to say the least and going 20 mph wasn't pushing the envelope on a back road or county highway. As for the game's unusual ending, the duo (Rob Hernandez being one of them) that covered the event for WEKZ 93.7 FM had a pretty good view of what happened and Hernandez loosely described it on his Twitter account. I'm not bringing up the matter to put down Belleville who earned the win.

Apologies for lack of posts. Kinda lost interest there a bit, but I read in the rankings article for the WSN Coaches' Poll that 3 of the 6 Capitol North teams (Lodi, Columbus and Lakeside) are ranked in the poll for D3. In fact, the league has a 35-6 record, with WLP, Poynette, and Lake Mills all having just two losses thus far.

I looked for this description and could not find it. Could you perhaps explain what happened?

One of the Valley players got fouled, one of the refs went to the scorer's table to call the foul only to the other ref say the game was over because there no time left on the clock. I didn't go to the game since the roads were snow covered, slick, and I had seen one car slide into the ditch just outside of Sauk City (and I listened to the game on WEKZ 93.7 FM). One parent of one of the other Valley varsity players told me the next day how the game ended and the two officials quickly left the gym. The parent even added that the roads leading up to Belleville before the snow fall stopped around five-thirty were just as bad. I've seen a few crazy endings to basketball games at the prep level, badgerfan, win or lose. You have to let it go and move on to the next game.

I know I haven't posted much on Capitol basketball lately, but...

Wow.

Cam Ward is impressive. He's been amazing for 3 years, but tonight, it was truly a pleasure to watch him play. Everything about his game is college ready. It's truly awe-inducing.

First off, congrats to Marshall on winning their third straigh Capitol South title. Now, here's the seeding results for the Cap. South teams.

Heights, Belleville, and New Glarus are all in the same regional with the whole SWAL minus Southwestern and the addition of Brookwood.

Heights drew the highest seed of the Capitol teams in that regional, drawing a 4 seed. They play 13th seeded Fennimore at home, and if they win there, they host the winner of 5th seeded Darlington and 12th seeded Brookwood.

Belleville and New Glarus will play in the 8 vs. 9 matchup. Winner of that game goes to Mineral Point to take on the top seeded Pointers, who are also ranked 2nd in the state in D4.

Waterloo and Cambridge are in a different D4 regional and will play each other as the 4th and 5th seeded teams in their 6 team regional. Winner of that game goes to top seeded Deerfield. The Loo/Cambridge game will be at Waterloo.

Marshall drew the 2 seed in their regional. They host the winner of 7th seeded Whitewater and 10th seeded Big Foot on 2/28. Should they win that game, they'll likely face 3rd seeded Lake Mills at home. In last year's regional final, Marshall beat LM at LM on a buzzer beater by Cam Ward. That game should be tremendous.

As far as getting to state, Marshall easily stands the best chance of going to state, though their road to state is incredibly hard. Along with that potential regional final matchup with LM, they'd have to face a top five team in D3 in Edgerton in the sectional semis, and if it shakes out right and they get to the sectional final, Marshall would play Lodi in Middleton for the right to go to state. That's scary good. Lodi has to face Poynette in the regional finals if that goes to plan (at Lodi, but Poynette has beaten Lodi once this season) and River Valley could pose a threat to Lodi as well if they meet in Baraboo for a sectional semi.
