If wont matter.  In 4 years so many states will have passed legislation that the NCAA wont have a choice but to update is draconian bylaws.

And when the legislation is different between states? It becomes a Pandora's Box of problems that the states should just be staying out of.

State laws will just put pressure in the NCAA to figure it out nation wide.  It is something the states should stay out of if the NCAA wasn't one of the most corrupt and dysfunctional organizations in the country.  17 billion dollars last year.  What a joke.

Interesting article.

Limits on the sponsors the kids would be able to sign with due to conflicts with existing school sponsors. Very little revenue generated from video games or jersey sales. No use of school names, logos, facilities or buildings in any of the ads.

The NCAA has changed its tune and will now allow players to receive payments for name, image and likeness (NIL). Looks like it may take effect in Jan 2021.

I am not against college kids getting paid but I think the NIL is going to be a disaster.

If college athletes are going to make money off their likenesses while in school, their scholarships should be treated like income. I’ll be introducing legislation that subjects scholarships given to athletes who choose to “cash in” to income taxes.

A hot take from an ignorant politician.  That legislation will never see the light of day.  Too many non athletes would be affected.

Hey we agree on something!!!  This sort of thing would likely have to include every kid on a scholarship for athletics, academics or whatever else. But it does just start to show how crazy this is going to get.

You can be sure that this decision, and its effects, are going to create a whole new cottage industry of hot (dumb) takes.

I saw something that said Dabo Swinney says he will retire if this goes through.

If he thinks his boosters aren’t handing out $500 handshakes to his players, he’s an idiot.

$500?  Rashan Gary turned down $300,000 from them.
