With a great basketball season over (congrats to Monroe) it's time to talk baseball. I have to admit I don't know a whole lot about Badger-South baseball other than Edgewood is a traditional powerhouse. I wouldn't say this about any other sport, but I believe that the old Southern Lakes was a better baseball conference than the Badger-South is. Could be wrong, tell me otherwise if I am.
So who is gonna be good? I saw where Edgewood is preseason D2 #1, but I take preseason rankings lightly, at all levels in all sports. Fort obviously struggled to win in football and basketball was excruciating. Football I was suprised with, basketball not so much. But I think they will be in good shape this year in baseball. Mark Rowley takes over as a first year head coach, but there is loads of potential for the Blackhawks this year that should make his transition an easy one.
How does everyone else's team look and did anyone pick up a Wisconsin Baseball magazine? If so what were the projected standings?
Thanks, I'm excited for baseball and plan on updating after Blackhawk games, as baseball is harder to keep up on than the other "Big 2."
Proud fan of the Packers, Cubs, Knicks, Orange, Warhawks, and Blackhawks.

Edgewood returns just about everything from last years 23-1 sectional final team. Chris Ritter and Robert Parman give them to great arms on the mound and two huge bats. Add to that returning starters Tim Longo, Kyle Haen, Mario Minnaert, Christan Wabers, Nick Hughes. So big things are expected of the Crusaders this season.

Wow, that's awesome for Edgewood. Do you play all of your games at the Duck Pond?

Game One: Fort Atkinson 14-8
Game Two: Jefferson 9-6

Fort looked really good for the first 9 innings of the doubleheader of the games against Jefferson, but the last 5 innings were awful.

Fort won the first game 14-8 and were never in trouble of losing the game. The hitting display was phenominal, everyone 1-9 was hitting the ball hard, even if it wasn't dropping. The Hawks were aided by some bad Jefferson fielding, but they looked better in all aspects than the Eagles.

The seconds game looked to be more of the same, Fort was the home team the second game and got out to a quick 6-0 lead. In 9 innings Fort lead Jefferson 20-8! Then Fort fell apart, allowing 9 unanswered runs.

If the Blackhawks can get some consistant pitching they will be set, the starting nine are all seniors with the exception of Knutson (soph) at shortstop. And even the backups who played the second game hit the ball all over the field. Scoring won't be a problem for Fort this year, pitching though could be. If they can get a rotation figured out it should be a really exciting season.

Edgewood- very solid, yet not as tough as I expected.
Stoughton- a few very good players carry the load
Oregon- They seem to be inconsistant, but a very good team when playing well
M.G.- Seem to have a good amount of talent, know how to win close games
Monroe- Few scrappy players, and a good lefty have won a few games for them
Milton- Couple players who would start on other teams, but have started to turn it on
Fort- Biggest disappointment this season, a lot of talent, very little production in conference
