At worst, AAU is nothing more than the playground we played on as kids 25-30 years ago. The only difference is that today we have scoreboards, referees, and indoor gyms. Blaming AAU for lack of fundamentals is like blaming playground ball for lack of fundamentals. We didn't learn fundamentals on the playground. Why is AAU held to a higher standard?

All I say is this, if AAU is so bad for kids, then don't let your child play. For those who played basketball most notable AAU/Grassroots that may have a son or daughter playing we know what is all about and there for. It is up to us as parents to make sure that our child is developing the right fundamental skills to get better. Whether it is picking a program/team to that aids with the fundamentals or simply working with our chidren ourselves.
