I'd like to say that I have been celebrating since it was made official, but I'm not a huge fan of grave dancing. Hoke gave Michigan everything he had and his players loved him. But he just couldn't develop talent or win games.

Michigan deserves a better coach but they couldn't ask for a better man. I do wish him the best wherever he ends up. Now Michigan needs to open up the coffers and go out and buy a great coach.
@2GuysFromWI

Harbaugh will have Urban Meyer retired from OSU by 2020.

Can you trade pro to college?
Jim Harbaugh to Michigan. Top Michigan players back to Niners.
Just kidding - I know you cant and doubt JH goes back to college coaching.
I still found the story about the Niners trading JH funny.
I know it has happened in the past, but cant see any teams that dumb today.
JH has only one year on his contract - I suspect Niners eat it first.
I realize both the Jets and the Raiders have been mentioned and both
organizations are dumb enough to do it.

When Gruden left the Raiders for TampaBay, I see that as a different situation.
TampaBay actually had a good team in place when Gruden arrived.
Don't see that with the Jets or the Raiders.

When the Niners signed Kaepernick for $126Million over 6 season, I could
see the whole team falling apart with SanFran. That signing simply made
no sense for what he had done in less than 2 full seasons.
I do realize they can cut him and don't have to pay the full contract, but they
gave Kaep a ton in bonuses up front.
Jumping the dog, I think on Kaep.
Saw the same thing with RGIII. Those running QB's rarely pan out long term - VICK too.
All decent players but not $20 million per year guys

I am definitely not holding my breath for Harbaugh to come to Michigan. However if he is out in SF, I just don't know where else he is going to go. The man wants to win. He isn't going to win with the Jets or the Raiders. Where can he go and find a roster as loaded as SF was when he got there?

You seem to know more and follow more about Michigan than anyone on this site.
Have you heard anything about a possible coach?
What do you think?? An assistant from a BIG or a head coach from a smaller school?
I cant imagine any big name coaches being available, but perhaps??
You can leave Harbaugh out because that looks like a long shot and is WAY off.
I just don't see Michigan waiting that long to fill the head coaching spot and
I don't see SanFran letting JH go UNLESS they drop out of the playoffs - like right now!

Harbaugh is at the top of the list. All my reading gets me very conflicted reports. The guys I trust most to get info from really seem to believe there is a legitimate chance he comes. However as you said, lets say he doesn't.

The list after that looks like this:
Les Miles. Former Michigan Player and Coach. Rumor is he would take the job if offered.
Bob Stoops. Played at Iowa, Born in Ohio. The thought is that he has done all he can do at OK and may want a change of scenery.
Jim Mora Jr. The idea here is UCLA is a basketball school and Michigan is a step up.

The lesser grumblings have been:
Bret Bielema
Butch Jones
Kevin Sumlin
Greg Schiano

What it comes down to is the Athletic Department knows it has to get this one right. There is no room to take a chance on a no name guy and hope they find the next Urban Meyer. They are going to pay whatever it takes to get the guy they want.

If you wanted my guess, my gut tells me it will be Miles. Harbaugh isn't ready to leave the NFL. Miles comes to Michigan coaches for 5-7 years and hangs it up after that. Then we revisit Harbaugh.

I forgot Miles was a player at Michigan and a coach too.
WOW! That would be the guy if they can get him.
I honestly don't see Miles making the move, unless the money is
astronomical. At age 61 does he want to rebuild a program?
I think Miles makes about $4.5 Million. How much higher will it
take to get him to move to Michigan??
Also, would LSU just let him go?
He would be the best 'guy' to rebuild Michigan IF he is 'into it'
and they can get him.

Money won't be an issue. They will pay whatever it takes. That is part of the reason that some insiders believe Harbaugh is a possibility. Michigan will pretty much hand him a blank check.

Jumping in here - dawg can correct me if I'm wrong.

I'm not sure how much "rebuilding" there is to do at Michigan. For all his faults, Hoke was still able to pull in some top-end recruiting classes. I have to think whatever coach comes in there is in more of a position to win immediately than at Nebraska.

Absolutely. The entire roster is still loaded with top end talent. From a recruiting standpoint its without a doubt the 2nd best roster in the Big Ten. Possibly #1. But Hoke couldn't develop these kids.

Next year they lose Gardner QB, Hagerup P, Taylor DB, Ryan LB, Clark DE(although he has already been kicked off the team.) Beyer DE

I believe that is it for starters. Possible that Funchess goes Pro.

But if he doesn't the Offense returns the Entire 2 deep Minus the QB and 1 backup guard.

The defense returns the Entire 2 deep mines 1 DB 1 LB and 1 DE and a backup S

The right coach could do what Auburn did 2 years ago.

There is much more to 'rebuilding' than the players. It will be an easier rebuild IF the players a
coach needs are already there. It will still be a rebuild.
Much of rebuilding is putting the players in the right places to make the TEAM succeed. Also need to
use 'systems' that allow the players to best use their abilities to help the TEAM win.
It isn't always the lack of players that causes a team to lose.
Anyone who has coached or managed at any level of athletics can tell you this.

Does Michigan have a QB? They don't have a Melvin Gordon type running back, so it will still be hard for a coach to pull an Auburn without a QB.

Michigan will have 3 highly recruited QBs next year. Shane Morris JR, Wilton Speight SO, and Alex Malzone FR.

They have 2 great RBs in Derrick Green #1 RB in his class and Deveon Smith #4 in the same class.

I've made it pretty clear that I've never been a fan of their last two QBs, but Michigan will improve at QB next year simply via subtraction.
