I couldn't agree more, Mark & Blade!

As is the case every season, the AP media folks who vote in the weekly polls, seem to be out of touch with recent scores & developments. I suspect the biggest reason for this to be that many of these AP sportswriters, etc are very familiar with their own circulation area, but unfortunately don't do their homework regarding other geographical areas in the state.

Frustrating for the fans in the know.

Both of the above-mentioned scenarios are a joke. Kimberly knocks off 3 top-10 teams in its first 3 outings, including Neenah, yet debuts at #5 in the D-1 poll, behind #4 Neenah .... ? [huh] Travesty!

Same with Pulaski receiving HM votes in D-2 with a 4-4 record, considering who a couple of their losses were to. []

I put a lot more stock in the WSN/Coaches rankings in football and girls & boys basketball than I do the AP rankings.

In fact, in football, the 3-division AP rankings (Large, Medium & Small) are a complete joke, IMO, considering the WIAA playoffs consist of 7 divisions.

Sometimes I've often wonder if sportswriters/media do this on purpose- just to stir the pot and get people fired up.

Sadly, I think it has more to do with not bothering to pay attention to teams outside their area of coverage.

I think it's more to get attention/votes for the teams in their own area, thus something for them to write about. There are some media writers & voters who are very protective of "their" teams. And very adamant that "their" teams are the best, going so far as to brag about the success of teams in their area as if it was their own success.

Never have been a fan of media doing rankings for any sport, on any level. But then again, I'm the conspiracy theorist that thinks the media is out to cause the carnage of the world, not report it. [:-]
