Broncos' RB Johnson hospitalized with partially collapsed lung
November 13, 2006

BOISE, Idaho (AP) -- Boise State running back Ian Johnson, the nation's leader in touchdowns, was in a California hospital with a partially collapsed left lung and his status for Saturday's home finale against Utah State was uncertain.
Johnson was injured sometime during the Broncos' 23-20 win on Saturday at San Jose State. He didn't speak to reporters after the game and was taken to the hospital for evaluation because he didn't feel well and was complaining of back pain.
He did not accompany the team back to Boise, and wasn't expected to leave O'Connor Hospital in San Jose, Calif. until Tuesday at the earliest, the school said.
"They're going slow as heck to make sure everything is good," Boise State head coach Chris Petersen said Monday morning. "Nothing has really changed since he went in there."
Petersen didn't rule Johnson out for Saturday's game.
"It's still up in the air, but we're not going to rush him," he said.
Johnson leads the country with 21 touchdowns and had 29 carries for 149 yards and one TD on Saturday.
Boise State (10-0, 6-0 Western Athletic Conference) moved up to No. 13 in the Associated Press poll and was No. 12 in the BCS rankings released Sunday. If the Broncos finish in the top 12 of the final BCS poll, they would automatically qualify for one of the big-money bowl games, becoming the second team from a non-BCS conference to earn a berth. Utah played in the Fiesta Bowl in 2004.

He is pretty much out for Utah State.

They're a little more hopeful for November 25, but I really wonder.

If you haven't seen this kid, believe me when I say he's pretty darned impressive. It would be a shame if he missed both these games.

--EDIT--
Don't take my word for it! Watch this:

One of my favorite memories of this football season was watching the game where Oregon State jumped on Boise State 14-0, and the ESPN guys were blathering on about how BSU couldn't compete with a team from a power conference. Johnson ended that game with 5 TD's and BSU blew them out. Definitely some highlights from that game on here.

ALSO pay special attention to these sequences: from 0:14 to 0:29 and the absolutely sick jumpstop from 1:25-1:30

147 yards and three TDs. Nice comeback. From YAHOO NCAA FOOTBALL NEWS:

Johnson, a sophomore who wore a flak jacket under his pads to protect a pair of cracked ribs, ran 31 times and set the school single-season record with 1,613 yards rushing. He broke the old mark of 1,611 set by Brock Forsey in 2002. He entered the day leading the nation in scoring, and now has 24 TDs.

"I got out there and forgot about the ribs," Johnson said. "I've played with broken ribs before... I just wanted to play hard for the team."

You just kind of have to like this kid. I know you guys probably wonder why I keep posting when no one replies, but I just thought i'd finish the story in case anyone was at least reading it.

I was reading[] I love this guy. One of my favorite players this year. He runs very hard and is not a prima-donna.

According to YAHOO NCAA FOOTBALL NEWS, Ian Johnson will wear a flak jacket and attempt to play against Nevada. Basically, it sounds like BSU can get the Fiesta bowl if they beat Nevada.
