Huge news out of the Flyway, as Tom Noennig has decided to step down as head coach of the Mayville Cardinals football program to take the head coaching position at Hartford Union High School.

In his four years as the head coach in Mayville, coach Noennig consistently got the most out of his players. Many fans will remember him for taking a very talented team in 2006 to the state finals, but he also turned around the year after losing most of that talent (especially on offense) and guided the Cards to a conference co-championship when they were picked to finish near the bottom of the conference.

As a Mayville fan, I speak for all of us when I say that this is a great loss for the program. Coach Noennig did wonderful things for the program in his four years here, and without a doubt will be greatly missed. Best of luck to Tom and his family as they move on to the next chapter in their lives.

I know of some people that aren't too happy about his decision but i definatly don't blame him one bit. Hartford is one of the bigger football powerhouses in the state and its probably a once in a lifetime chance for him. I'm positive that he will do just fine at Hartford. I wish him the best of luck there for him and his family.

He also came to Mayville from Hartford...so I don't blame him for going back...not to mention he has younger kids who can get more recognition at a bigger school like Hartford when they get up there...Tom is a young coach still and has a bright future ahead of him...

he actually planned this so that now that I graduated I can come in and coach Mayville football as I have always dreamed...

except I'm moving 9+ hours away...hope my headset goes that far!

Just a thought but does Brickson still coach At Sheboygan North or did he get fired? Anyone else have any ideas who might be the new coach?

Indeed, people can not get mad at coach Noennig for taking the Hartford job. He already teaches in the district, he coached there before, and it is an elite program, despite not having not much playoff success. Although Mayville players may feel betrayed right now, they should not, because their now former coach put his heart and soul into coaching Mayville when he was here, and was presented with an incredible opportunity for him and his family in the Hartford job just too good to pass up. Congrats to coach Noennig on the job and congrats to Hartford on getting a great coach.

As for the open position now in Mayville, it is pretty early to be speculating names, at least for us fans on this message board. Brickson was the coach last season at Sheboygan North; don't know if he will be a candidate or not. Either way, Mayville has had a great football program for years and should not have a hard time getting quality candidates. It sure will be interesting though to see how it all shakes out.

I don't really see Brickson coming back, although he's had a rough go over at Sheboygan I just don't see him coming back to Mayville. Hartford Union's coach retired and Noenning was offered the position, so he jumped on it, congrats to him as well.
IG 1/21/08 Miss you mom

Being in sales is tough. Just when you think your day of rejections is over you end up going home to your wife for a couple more rounds.

actually the coach was supposedly offered the TE coaches job in WW...but either way...the bigger issue is that Mayville lost a good coach that must now be replaced...

I think it's time to give Kevin Knoll his chance...dude's been an assistant since mid 90's I think...he did a bit of play calling for Coach N and knows the Wing-T and the new Spread offense probably better then anyone on the current staff and knows the players better then most coaches...
