In #22 Wisconsin's (6-1) 79-75 comeback win over North Carolina State (6-1) Tuesday night in the ACC/Big 10 Challenge, UW sophomore guard Brad Davison drew a total of 5 offensive fouls on Wolfpack players, including a crucial charge called on NC State with 16 seconds remaining in the contest and the game's outcome hanging in the balance.

Davison's flops did not go unnoticed by the national media:

I don't care what anyone says, this was solid defensive play.  He beat his man to the spot and took the contact in the chest.  As a coach, this was awesome to see and something that brought a smile to my face.  Those lazy pundits on tv that are doing all the complaining probably never once took a charge.   Just because it isn't a foul on a video game doesn't mean it isn't a foul in a real game.

Believe me, oldballcoach, I loved every minute of Davisson's performance Tuesday night ... I always do.  Davisson is a throwback to  the old-school players who demonstrated extreme hustle, energy,  emotion and enthusiasm the majority of the time.  His effort, especially defensively,  reminds me of the way I played the game when I was 15-16 yrs old.

A lot of Badger fans may not be aware that arguably the best football quarterback on campus, doesn't even play football.  Davison was an all-state QB in football in the state of Minnesota.

Glad that Brad Davison is a Badger !

I’m pretty sure it was just four, and Pritzl took one early in the game.

The only one one I thought was questionable was one where he came over on help aide and the guy driving mostly slid by him, barely making contact up top.

The guy who wrote the article on MSN has no clue what he is talking about. A defender does not have to be stationary in order to draw a charge. He only has to have established a legal guarding position. Moving his feet and beating the defender to the spot is excellent defense. Calling those "flops" is a disservice to the effort that Davisson puts in on defense. He obviously understands positioning and angles. Hopefully what he is doing will catch on with some of his teammates.

"Selling the call" is something all good defenders do. Most contact from charges wouldn't naturally result in the defender falling perfect to the floor and sliding on his back. It's more of a bracing reaction to the contact. Like Travis, I only thought one of them could have gone the other way the other night.

In today's offensively-driven world it is highly frowned upon, by those who have no time for anything but dunks and long bombs.

I applaud Davison's effort and going forward, I'm sure every telecast will talk about the number of charges taken in this game.

However, he can be reckless at times, and although he did get the call on the last charge, that is a risky play. It worked out, but he won't get that call on the road in the B1G.

Badgers guard Brad Davison had a particularly rough game in Bucky's loss to Marquette last Saturday.  Besides not scoring in 32 minutes of play, Davison incurred a  crucial Flagrant 1 foul call late in the game.

Jim Polzin of the Wisconsin State Journal attempts to shed some light on Davison's struggles so far this season:
