Badgers beat Stanford this afternoon 62-46. Trice and Happ lead the way with 16 each and Davison adds 14.  Another big stat, Nate Reuvers ties a school mark I believe with 9 blocked shots.

Things got tight with about 10 minutes left and Stanford had a couple of chances to tie and maybe even take the lead with a 3, but the defense steps up and controls the last 8 or so minutes of the game.  This was a solid effort again and one that the growth of this team shows through.  They got stops when they needed them and attacked the basket offensively.  Only 1 three made and that was at the end as the clock was running down.

This was a good matchup for the Badgers as Stanford doesn't play fast.  That being said, you gotta like wins like this after last year.  A match up tomorrow with Oklahoma in the semi's will be a better challenge and give a good indication of where this team stands.  But the eye test right now says this team is able to compete for a top four finish in the Big 10.

Look Badgers route Oklahoma without Davison scoring.  We now know what the big 3 in Happ, Trice, and Davison can provide.  When a 4th and 5th player like Reuvers or King can score, that makes this team really really good.  Excited to see how they can play against VA today.

I thought they looked much better against Oklahoma then they did against Stanford. The movement without the ball on offense was better, passing of the ball was better (16 assists vs 2 the day before), and boxing out on defense was a lot better. They still struggle defending the drive, mostly because too many guys still do not understand help side defense, angles, and positioning. Hopefully that will come, although it has been a weak spot that has been growing since Bo's last 2 years. Sadly, that is a product of players who were never taught how to play solid defense in high school.

The difference between the Stanford/Oklahoma game is simply that we hit our 3's.  Last year, teams defended up the same way but Trice didn't shoot well early on, then got hurt.  Can't count on Pritzl to hit 3s on a game by game basis and Davison was asked to do way to much while he wasn't even 100%. This season, teams will still double Happ but we're knocking down 3s as a crazy rate.  Trice is hot, but I don't think he can shoot at a 60% clip LOL.  Davison is too good to not start having some great scoring games, so this team is in great shape moving forward.

I just wish Iverson could hit his bunnies more consistently... Eh.

Another tremendous game by Trice at the point. 37 minutes - 1 assist - 5 points. Just tremendous!  Cant win against good teams playing a midget at the point, especially a guy who is short, little quickness, a dribbling turnover machine, etc. I actually thought he as Allen Iverson. Gonna be a long long Big 10 season if Trice starts at the point.

Guess the games against Xavier, Stanford and Oklahoma were meaningless??  All of those teams are physically solid and defend pretty darn well.  Keep in mind, 3 games in 3 days is a lot and it showed the last 8 minutes of today's game with pretty much everyone.  If we are talking turnovers, who led the team in turnovers today??  Size - Kihei Clark of Virginia is 5'8"at best and he starts for the #4 team in the nation.  Not sure why stock in put in someone's height.

Trice will start the rest of the season.  Reuvers will start the reason of the season.  If anyone heads to the bench, it should be Iverson, but being a senior, that isn't going to happen.

Losing sucks, but Virginia is ranked #4 because they are pretty darn good.  In the end, this game will go a long way for this team.  It would have been a nice win to put in the quality wins column at the end of the season, but it didn't happen today.  I would fully expect a bounce back on Tuesday against a decent NC State team.

I don't think Iverson being a senior will have anything to do with it... What he lacks in scoring, he more than makes up for in the other statistical categories....

Plus, I like having King come off the bench as a legitimate scoring option.

Feel bad for Trevor Anderson.. Just doesn't look like his play will cut it this year.  The other players don't seem to have trust of him yet and he's not 100%.

Iverson definitely makes big hustle play after big hustle play but he has some of the worst luck any Badger has had. (remember the fast break against Florida in the S16?) He almost got a HUGE steal from Guy but then Guy luckily got it back and we had to foul.  Then, we just turn the ball over and end the game on a deflating note.

Still, we played really tough in the second half and while VA is great defensively and a more athletic/disciplined version of UW, we could've still beat them.  That's what happens when Davison/Trice go cold.  You have to imagine Davison/Trice are going to light it up in certain games in the season and they're gonna have terrible shooting games, just how basketball goes.

Also, Pritzl shows again to be a non-factor against a good opponent when we need him most but will consistently play well against inferior teams.

I would agree with you on that point to an extent. The fact that they moved better without the ball meant that they had better looks at 3's instead of jacking them up late in the shot clock or with a hand in their face.

I would also say that since Oklahoma decided to double Happ when he got the ball in the post, it left some wide open looks for the shooters. Stanford decided not to double Happ, which translated to less looks from deep, which in my opinion was the biggest reason the Badgers nearly went the entire game without making a three point shot.

When you combine Trice's height and his lack of great athletic ability(not fast or quick, doesnt handle the ball very well, doesnt pass well, etc); you have a point guard who simply takes up time and doesnt elevate the team's play. Keep pumping up Trice though, he isnt going to get any better. There is a reason no other D-1 school went after him coming out of high school.  King, Davison, Reuvers, Happ and Iverson need to start. CASE CLOSED.

"Crusty old white guy dislikes black athlete for reasons that befuddled those who actually watch the games."

I don't know about everyone else, but I've been around this block a time or two in non-forum life, sadly.

No one here is anointing Trice as a second coming of Devin Harris or anything, but we all find it a bit suspect when he's poo-poo'd as being terrible, when that's just not the case.

Can I say CASE CLOSED here, or is that only reserved for septegenarian know-it-alls who have no time for other opinions, ever?
