From a recruiting standpoint, losing Thomas Brown hurts. 247, for example, ranked Brown as one of the Top 50 recruiters nationally and I don't think any former Wisconsin coach has come close to that mark.

There are some bedwetters on other Wisconsin message boards. In my opinion, people need to take a step back from the ledge.

First, and as I stated earlier, it hurts that he left from the standpoint of recruiting. He was instrumental in landing a number of recruits, most notably Jordan Stevenson (committed without a head coach in place), Arrington Farrar (four-star S/OLB that chose Wisconsin over Notre Dame), and a 2016 RB in Antonio Williams (who has since backtracked a bit on everything UW).

Second, the Wisconsin RB coach is a well-respected position and we've done quite well replacing one coach with another in that regard. Paul Chryst knew the type of coach Brown was when he got here and that is why he was retained. Chryst also understands, as well as anyone, the long-standing tradition of running backs that have come through this program and will make a hire that best continues that dominance.

Third, we all knew this day would be coming for Brown! Would we have liked to see him stick around longer? Sure, of course. One season with one of the best recruiters in the country does not seem like enough time. Wisconsin is still perceived as a program a step below several programs, including UGA. Not only that, but Brown grew up less than an hour from UGA and attended school there. The moment the position opened up and he was offered, that was a wrap.

Fourth, and outside of recruiting, one year was not enough to gauge what kind of position coach Brown was. He was gifted the most physically-talented running back Wisconsin has ever had, who happened to grow immensely as a leader before Brown arrived. Not only did Melvin Gordon spend three years learning from the likes of Montee Ball and James White, two of the more decorated RBs in school history, but he also spent three years with an incredibly good position coach in Thomas Hammock. Gordon did a lot this past season, but some of it was expected. His expectations would have been through the roof with or without Thomas Brown. That being said, I am not meaning to be critical of Brown. He proved to be a very good recruiter, but his impact as a position coach is 'incomplete,' in my opinion.

Hope Chryst can make a splash of a hire, though it's sounding more and more like John Settle may return. Based on other message boards, there is a pretty mixed reaction.

Less than a month after deciding to remain at UW as running backs coach, Thomas Brown has bolted for his alma mater, Georgia.

Former Badger RB coach, John Settle is rumored to be at the top of a short list of candidates to replace Brown.

It appears as though Wisconsin will be switching from Adidas to Under Armour sometime this spring: http://wisconsin.247sports.com/Bolt/Wisconsin-Switching-To-Under-Armour-36753672
