Sussex Hamilton coach resigned?? Anyone have any background on this one?

Article in Wauk Freeman says parents complained but administration was ok with coach coming back....Sounds like the work of a few parents without a clue???

Wow...that team had improved 10-fold since he took over the head varsity job, IMO...

Sounds to me like another parent who coached his little girl in youth ball ran to the Adm. and complained about who knows what. If it had to do with playing time or tactics then the Adm. should of discounted it completely.

" Earlier in the year school administrators conducted an investigation prompted by concerns raised by several parents. " The investigation determined Heckman?s coaching practices to be appropriate.

I think some parents should be held accoutable for their parenting practices to be honest.

Heckman declines to remain head coach Submitted By Denise Dorn Lindberg

Posted: Jun. 6, 2009

After 17 years of working with Hamilton High School Girls? Basketball ? the last three years as head coach ? Dan Heckman has chosen to step away from the program.

Earlier in the year school administrators conducted an investigation prompted by concerns raised by several parents. The investigation determined Heckman?s coaching practices to be appropriate. Even though administrators recommended that Heckman remain as head coach, Heckman said the situation has created division and a distraction for the team.

?This decision has been difficult, but I sincerely believe this is best for the team at this time,? Heckman stated to players and their parents.

?I have been fortunate to work with wonderful students, parents and colleagues who have shown me overwhelming support throughout the 17 years that I have had the privilege be a part of the basketball program,? Heckman said.

Hamilton High School Principal Candis Mongan said Heckman?s coaching decisions were focused on what he saw as being in the best interests of the players and the team as a whole.

?I believe he has had a positive impact on many students throughout his coaching career,? Mongan said. ?He will be missed by many.?

Nice to see the adminastration having a coach's back. Why would anyone want to coach with parents and adminastration that won't support him. With a formula like that it equals problems.

Let's see - it probably went like: my kid is so much better than those other kids - why isn't she allowed to shoot more, or why doesn't she start, or they don't run an offense that takes advantage of her skills. It proves to me more and more that there are many people out there who should never have become parents in the first place. They may have the necessary equipment but they don't have the the necessary skills.

I just want to let everyone know to be careful about the uninformed observations of administration "having the coaches back". They may publicly "have the coaches back" but not privately when the bottom line comes down. I am NOT saying this is the case here because I have no idea about the circumstances, but I know in many other cases it is.

But I agree with the posts earlier about parents being involved in it. No doubt about it. When will parents realize that 99% of the time if a coach is out of line, everything WILL take care of itself in regards to a coach no longer being the coach.

It looks obvious to me that the AD had the coaches back.

Parents probably went above him or her. That next level may have been where the rubber met the road.
