We had a lot of complaints at the office today about the TH not being at Benton's victory over Catholic Central on Thursday night. Normally I would never take in-house business to an Internet message board, but I did not have an opportunity to respond to most of the complaints we received, so I wanted to at least put this out there and hope a few Zephyrs catch it.

As the TH's SW Wisconsin preps writer, I realize full well what a special season the Benton boys are enjoying and how exciting their victory over Catholic Central was. Unfortunately, I was in Madison covering the Cuba City girls at state, and we sent our stringer/intern, Shannon Mumm, to the River Ridge game for the simple fact it was closer to home (Richland Center compared to Janesville; Shannon lives in Platteville). I obviously know how important games are to fans at this point in the season, but it's equally obvious that I cannot be everywhere at once. In fact, I hate to pile more bad news on the situation, but we won't be able to send anyone to Saturday night's game, either. (Though I have made some arrangements and hopefully we'll at least have some postgame quotes for Sunday's paper.)

I'm a little disappointed in today's response because I'm actually proud of the coverage we've given the Benton boys this season. I, personally, covered three of their games, including when they clinched their first outright conference title in 51 years and their playoff victory over Southwestern just last week. And the conference clinching story was across the top of the front page of the sports section with a photo and it also had a photo tease at the top of 1A. That is rarified air for Wisconsin preps coverage.

In the end, I want all those concerned Benton fans to know I understand their passion for their team and how they want as much recognition for their kids as possible. In turn, I just hope those good folks realize I am but one man and I do everything in my power to cover all 16 of our SW Wisconsin schools as equally and fairly as possible, and that is a task I take very seriously.

If any fan from any school ever has a question or concern about my coverage - or any, for that matter - in the TH, please don't hesitate to call me at 563/588-5631 or e-mail me at . I will be glad in any situation to discuss any topic. I hope this has helped in some small way.

He's only one person. And a 3 peat has only happened once before in the history of girls backetball. Plus Jeff Pustina's record 6th state title, and teams record 8 titles.
Be nice to your kids. They will choose your nursing home.
