After working on a trivia question for the Bangor/W-C boy's program, I've become pretty interested in learning about past POYs...wondering if there's a list out there somewhere...if not...there should be...um, Scenic Bluffs Conference website anyone?

So, help me fill in the gaps!? That'd be great. It'd also be great to do this for other sports, too.

Boys
2008: Justin Thompson Hillsboro
2007: Danny Rick W-C
2006: Jeff Darnell Necedah
2005: Kevin Buchholz Brookwood
2004: Drew Johnson Cashton
2003 Troy Bolcerek Bangor
2002 Nick Korn Cashton
2001 Matt Lindsey W-C
2000 Todd Buchholz Broowood
1999 Jay Benish
1998 Josh Board Royall, Brian Bruha Hillsboro
1997 Brian Bruha Hillsboro
1996 John Roloff W-C
1995 and earlier is up in the air...but I'd like to finish the list...

Girls:
2008 Alli Fanta Hillsboro
2007 Lacy Laack W-C
2006 Joni Stanek Hillsboro
2005 Heather Witt Royall
2004 Heather Witt Royall
2003 Jenny Jefferson Royall
2002 Jennifer Trepes Royall
2001 Chelsea Board Royall
2000 Becky Arndt Royall
1999 Stephanie Olson W-C
1998 Kara Brandau
1997 and earlier...? I'd assume a few Bangor kids, possibly a Royall kid; Help?

1997 would be Brian Brouha from Hillsboro. He used to post on here, but not sure if he is still active. He's the [link=http://www.lakeforest.edu/foresters/%7Estaff.html]Athletic Facilities and Equipment Manager at Lake Forest College[/link] in Lake Forest, Illinois (where he played collegiate basketball, is [link=http://www.lakeforest.edu/foresters/mball/indcareer.htm]second in school history in assists and steals[/link]). My Richland Center team lost to his Hillsboro team at the Bradley Center our senior year. Heckuva player, being a cross country runner he could just go all day and never get worn down.

Also, for 2006 I don't now who was POY, but here is the [link=http://www.wissports.net/sports/hoopsb/confawards.asp?cid=47&sportID=1&year=2005]All-Conference team[/link]. Since [link=http://www.wissports.net/sports/hoopsb/confstandings.asp?cid=47&sportID=1&year=2005]Bangor won conference pretty easily[/link] I would guess it was either Gerke or Blount.

Thanks so much. Your info is appreciated!
I actually got the entire All-Con list from Joe Stekel (Bangor) for the 2005-06 season
I'll keep digging...maybe come up with some older stuff, too...

No problem. And I missed your second post that you'd found 2006. You should go to your original post and edit it to reflect that. By the way, you should put your photography website in your signature.

He was one hell of a cross country runner too, in 1996 he got 10th place at the [link=http://wisconsinxc.com/State/1996.php]D3 state meet (scroll to bottom unless your really intrerested in the legend of Gabe Jennings)[/link]. He also held Hillsboro's 3200 meter record for track until this year. He is what we call a natural born athlete.
Well sir, while I may not agree with what you say, I'll defend to the death your right to say it.

Every thing is funner with a runner!

Cross Country. The 3 miles are easy, but the .1 really hurts!

Did the NL girls tie with Bangor then for the SBC title in 1997?
I checked my records and it looks as though the Cardinals ran everyone over en route to a 14-0 conference record before going on to win DIV state.
I would have expected the POY to come from either Bangor or Cashton that year...and the Eagles should have been tough-as they went to state in 98.

Maybe it was 96 then.

From what I know...NL (and Brookwood) have never won a conference title. Perhaps the NL girls did share in 1996...that's something I'd like confirmed...but to my understanding...it goes like this...

1981-1990 Bangor
1991 Necedah
1992, 93 Royall
1994-97 Bangor
98 Cashton/Royall
99 W-C
00-01 Royall
02 Hillsboro
03 Royall
04 Hillsboro
05 Hillsboro/Cashton
06 Hillsboro
07 Hillbsoro/Bangor
08 Bangor

I do remember possibly reading something when I was working on the reunion for the 97 Bangor girls that may have said they did share in 1996... any confirmation either way is appreciated.

Yeah, it was either 95 or 96 and it must have been shared, but NL definitely has a girls basketball conference championship trophy in their trophy case and it is on the school's conference titles banner in the gym.

I had the luxury of guarding Bruha and his significantly more talented Hillsboro teammates. I can't say enough about his athleticism and endurance. With players like Josh Board (Royall), Jay Benish (W-C), and others, the conference was not short on talent and Bruha stood above them

First off, thanks to everyone for all the info. It's been great to learn about the SBC from everyone.
Second off, I still have those early season gaps to fill...and I'll try to keep my eye open when I'm at schools for plaques and awards in their trophy cases.

Third and last, I've been going through all my old highlight tapes and updating everything to DVD...redoing package design and adding scores. My issue is trying to find scores from Brookwood from the 2001-02-2003-04 seasons...they don't keep decent records so I've got some digging...maybe I'll have to reference other schools' yearbooks...

Next challenge: SBC titles for all sports I'll start threads today
