I'm not sure how soon they announce this, but I believe the coaches typically select 10 guys for this honor. There are 5 obvious choices: Johnson, Place, Holz, Feller, and Benner, but any thoughts for the other 5 spots???

hells yeah! thats about all i gots to say on this subject. but actually, ill add this. if your going to have co-conference player of the years though, might as well go three way and throw holz in there with it. personally i would've went with holz and johnson if i were to pick two, no offense to place hes an animal but his team didn't get the job done. congratuations to everyone on the list as well.

is this just your list or were those official teams on the link? i know barnevelds not considered in the area for the monroe times thats why i ask. do you know the actual listings for the whole conference? because im thinking clerkin will for sure get some acknowledgment. also, do we have a defensive player of the year award? because im thinking that would definitely go to slaney but idk if the coaches considered him as far as all conference

Barneveld had three girls on first team if I remember correctly, and two or three honorable mentions.

As for the boys, Johnson and Clerkin were first team I believe, and Slaney and another guy were honorable mention...

This is coming from my memory last night after writing up the stories...

And yes, we at the Monroe Times do not cover Barneveld.... If you want to be covered, start subscribing, and I would be more than happy to add games/players to our weekly lists and gamers! []

i respectfully disagree with holz being there on several fronts based on the 3 games i saw him involved this year. this is poy so to take place out of equation because of record as a whole would be wrong. i can agree with johnson being there, he was impressive but not quite as impressive as i expected, this is not to take anything away from him, but i honestly expected to be even more impressed with him, again based on the 2 games i saw him play this year. he and place were more known "commodities" coming into the year. based on the 3 games we had with bh last year i thought he was the best they had on the floor then. all you heard was joey hartwig, joey hartwig who was single digits all 3 games, but place killed us. we, i believe held him below his average this year but he made up for that with his very good passing and willed his team to get win in arg. they never should have got that night being down like they were at half. holz was good in mont. 1st game but didn't really wow me. second game in arg. he was almost a non-factor with 7 points and for being their go-to guy spent good part of game in corner of floor watching the action. in benton game he spent way too much time doing the same thing, maybe their offense is designed that way til he sees a hole to attack but i found it very strange the amount of time he spent just standing in the corner more or less not even involved in the game. if you want holz in either a 2-way with johnson or a 3-way with johnson and place he has to find a way with 2 chances against lesser opponents based on records to lock-up sole conf. champ. they needed 1 of 2 to get it done and they blew them both. these were both emotional games with mort's last home game and parents and senior night in arg. in my opinion you have to find a way to get 1 of them if you want to be in this conversation.

That is a ridiculous statement, you cant have Black Hawk's starting 5 in there that would just be ridiculous they didnt contribute as much as the other players did for their respective teams.

So Kimee Chandler leads the league in scoring & assists but isn't the conference player of the year for 08-09? She must be taking the fall for Pec having a down year or the fact that she is only a junior. Maybe the coaches were not watching the same games that I went to. Kind of confusing to say the least.

first off melissa wellnitz doesnt even start.... and gabi and maria do deserve to be on it... it should be
gabi lehner
paige butler
kim wellnitz
maria meives
kim chandler
brittany kent
brooke allen
melissa carmody
courtany sullivan

then for #10 u could throw in blumer, melissa wellnitz, and others...

this list isnt the best players it is simply representing every school... its a joke

We might as well just have the entire black hawk team be first team all conference.

as luoldeng pointed out to me, actually your the one that made the bold statement. (haha get it, you bolded the font) anyways. the fact that kimmy and kent were the only scoring threats for pec made it that much more impressive that she still led the conference in scoring. teams knew who they had to stop, and couldn't do it.

*list doesn't include Barneveld as this came from the Monroe Times and they aren't a local team for this paper. When I hear who got it for Barneveld I will add it

so i think this list is bs. How can Hailey Meier and Maria Meives even be mentioned ahead of Sydney Bump(albany), Larissa Klemm(Juda), Hayli Peach(albany) and a few others. and Kim Wellnitz should not be on first team. I've seen every girl on this list play and there is no reason all these black hawk girls should be ahead of the ones i've mentioned.

kimmy chandler should of been player of the year no matter how you look at it. she led in scoring and assist, at least if gym rat is accurate, which i don't know why he wouldn't be if he posted it if it wasn't. she would also be the most valuable to her team seeing as without her pec is probably last in the conference, if not close. not to take anything away from butler but come on. in a game of one on one, i don't think its even close.
