Cuba loses to Brodhead/Juda 22-21.

Cuba was up 21-0 at one point and then just fell apart.

I herd Fennimore started off pretty bad, but then in the last 3 quarters they tore up a good D4 team with 350 yards rushing on like 30 attempts and one of their D-backs had 2 or 3 interceptions.

Columbus mighta been D4, but they're nothing to really to praise. Fennimore's just that much better. Oh, and heard*... [:-]

Wow, you guys fucking suck. We finally up and anniahalate a team and all you guys can say is North Crawford must really suck. Nothing about good job Boscobel or anything, I can't wait to play your teams and well show you were not the push-overs you think we are. Even if it was against a bad team when the winners give up 9 yards rushing you dont diss them.

Cats reboundSouthwestern rebounds from tough Galena lossby SHANNON MUMM

HAZEL GREEN, Wis. - The East Dubuque Warriors did all they could to contain Southwestern quarterback Blake Martin and the Wildcats offense, but it was not nearly enough, as the Wildcats defeated the Warriors, 36-8, at Carns Field on Friday night.

Southwestern rushed for 230 yards on 36 attempts and added 57 yards through the air en route to their first victory of the season. The Warriors, meanwhile, were held to just 176 total yards.

"They brought the pressure at us the entire game," East Dubuque coach Terry Breitbach said. "We did not have that fire in us. Mentally, we just weren't in it."

The Wildcats (1-1) found the scoreboard late in the first quarter after East Dubuque (0-2) mishandled a punt snap, giving Southwestern first and goal on the Warriors' 8-yard line.

Martin eventually scored from a yard out to put the Wildcats up, 7-0, with 2:16 left in the first. Martin found the end zone twice more, once on a 5-yard run and then on a 45-yard punt return, both in the third quarter.

Martin also connected with Eric Bartsch for a

27-yard touchdown pass in the second quarter, putting the Wildcats up, 13-0. Martin, a junior, rushed for 88 yards on eight attempts and completed 3 of 6 passes for 57 yards.

"(East Dubuque) really couldn't handle Blake," Southwestern coach Dave Wills said. "Any time Blake touches the ball we can score."

Breitbach knew coming into the game that Martin would be tough to defend.

"He is a large, talented athlete," Breitbach said. "He is a tough runner; he broke a lot of arm tackles against us."

The Wildcats scored their third touchdown of the night in the final minutes of the first half on a 1-yard run from senior running back Joey Hilby, putting them up, 20-0. Hilby finished the game with 101 yards on the ground on 13 carries.

The Warriors' offensive woes continued in the third quarter, as a lost fumble on their own 27 soon resulted in a Martin touchdown. The Warriors managed just four first downs all night.

"We really need to take care of the fundamentals," Breitbach said. "We need to come out being mentally and emotionally prepared."

The Wildcats added their final points of the night in the third as Bartsch nailed a 42-yard field goal, putting the home team up, 36-0.

"We did a great job of running the ball tonight," Martin said. "This is the best I've seen our offensive line play. They opened up for some great holes."

The Warriors scored their lone touchdown with 11:21 remaining in the fourth quarter on a 5-yard run by Jason Schauer.

I couldn't find the box score of Boscobel/North Crawford game in the Wisconsin State Journal either on Saturday or Sunday, but like everyone else who follows the SWAL, I was surprised as well. Another thing, the 61 points that Boscobel put up against the Trojans (and I don't mean to sound like a sports nerd here), isn't that a school record?

As for this week's contest against Cuba City, I don't see the Bulldogs pulling off another surprise here unless a blue moon comes by and I'm proven wrong.
