Neenah at Wisconsin Rapids - Neenah could challenge Fondy in the South, while Rapids defense struggled a year ago and returns almost no one from a year ago.

Friday, 8/23

Kaukauna at Oshkosh North - North's struggles continue.

D.C. Everest at Appleton East - East is picked behind Kimberly and Appleton North in the North. Everest struggled a year ago and there isn't a ton of hope on the horizon.

Stevens Point at Appleton North - SPASH will be really young and likely will scuffle out of the gate again this year.

Marshfield at Appleton West - Marshfield has a lot to replace from last year's L4 team, but it still should be enough to get by West and salvage some WVC pride.

Kimberly at Oshkosh West - Kimberly looks to begin streaks anew.

Hortonville at Wausau West - West really nosedived down the stretch a year ago and returns a young team yet again.

Franklin at Fond Du Lac - Probably the state's game of the week. While it's tempting to give Fondy the edge in both homefield advantage and the "Jorgie Factor," the reality is the Cardinals return just four starters and it's a new Jorgie, not quite the same as the old Jorgie. That's not to say they'll be inexperienced, mind you, but considering Franklin returns slightly more in the returning playmaker department, I think that gives them the slightest of edges in this tilt.

Neenah at Wisconsin Rapids: If anything Neenah could give Fondy a real challenge in the South this year.

Friday, 8/23

Kaukauna at Oshkosh North: North crashed and burned the last few seasons. It's gonna be a bit of a climb back to respectability. Kaukauna should start the year off on the right foot.

D.C. Everest at Appleton East: It wasn't that long ago that D.C. Everest was one of the premier powers in Division 1. Now they just struggle to be compete for a playoff spot. It will be interesting how East can leapfrog Kaukauna for a possible playoff bid in the North.

Stevens Point at Appleton North: Someone needs to buy SPASH dinner for the downright brutal opening stretches on the schedule the last few years. Could they bounce back and made the postseason? Who knows. North despite losing a key piece to transfer, should be able to prevail here.

Marshfield at Appleton West: The Tigers restored some WVC pride with a deep playoff run last season. They get one for the downtrodden West in week one over a rebuilding West team.

Kimberly at Oshkosh West: Now how Kimberly responds from not only having the state's longest winning streak snapped but also being shoved off the top of D1 last season will be something to monitor. However for the teams on their schedule it will not end well.

Hortonville at Wausau West: Polar Bears should be able to handle West here.

Franklin at Fond Du Lac: In theory I could've taken Fondy but with the coaching change and needing to replace a bunch of production lost last year, I had to give a very slight edge to Franklin.

Week One Matchups

Thursday, 8/22

Neenah at Wisconsin Rapids ( I think Neenah will be good but I don t see them challenging Fondy for the League title unless Neenah can knock off Kimberly. Either way expect a big win out of the gate.

Friday, 8/23

Kaukauna at Oshkosh North ( The Ghosts ended a long playoff drought last season and enter this year with the highest expecations they have had in years. North has struggled mightily the past two seasons. However, I expect North to be much more competitive this season and could surprise a few teams with some wins.

D.C. Everest at Appleton East (East will be vastly improved while DCE struggles to regain its dominance. East should win this game by two or three scores but wouldnt be shocked if DCE hangs closer.

Stevens Point at  Appleton North (SPASH is getting to the point where they want out of this league given the schedules that have been given to them recently. Unfortunately another tough start is upon them as they get a hungry Lightning team.

Marshfield at Appleton West (The Tigers steamrolled the VFA West last year and were one win away from state. This years team will look a lot different but i still expect them to be the favorites in the league. The Terrors are rebuilding under Mitch Johnson but showed signs of growth last year. I expect a good battle for the first half with Marshfield pulling away down the stretch.)

Kimberly at Oshkosh West (OWest has been victim of several close calls lately, losing four games by one score a season ago. Kimberly not only lost their first game in five years last year but first state title game in five years also. With both those streaks out the window, Kimberly is set to reach those same heights again. Scary part is Coach Jones calls this years team one of the deepest teams and most talented teams hes had in while.

Hortonville at Wausau West (Polar Bears have no trouble getting off on the right foot)
Franklin at Fond Du Lac (New Jorgy or not running the show, the original Jorgy is still part of this staff and will have an impact on the Cardinals. Yes they lose a lot from last year but they are motivated and want to show that last years level four loss will not carry over to this year
