Racine Horlick at Franklin - It would seem that this is the least important game on the docket in the SEC this week. Barring Horlick rising up and shocking the world, that is, which I just don't see happening. Now on to the juicy games.

Oak Creek at Kenosha Indian Trail - Here lies the battle for second place. KIT has been the far more consistent and impressive team and is the pick here. That said a running clock for the Knights also somehow wouldn't surprise me. One of these teams is likely to get a relatively high seed come playoff time. Can either avoid being upset though, that's the question.

Kenosha Bradford at Kenosha Tremper - The SEC is such that you can have one win heading into Week 8 and still be considered a decent shot for the playoffs. Bradford has two very winnable games to close out the year. Two wins and they're almost certainly in. Tremper has not had the season some thought they could, but they'd like nothing more than to spoil Bradford's chances here. I'll take Bradford in a one-score game under 20 points total.

Racine Case at Racine Park - The winner here is a near lock to make it as a sub-.500 at least. Park has the more favorable Week 9 matchup, so Case may need the win more here. How much do they regret that dud against Tremper? I think Park's defense frustrates the Eagles, and they hit one or two big plays through the air to win something along the lines of 12-7.

Racine Horlick at Franklin - Agree with DB that this is the least interesting matchup of the week.  Franklin rolls.

Oak Creek at Kenosha Indian Trail - I'm tempted to take KIT here given historically they have given OC fits, but I think OC will rebound with a big night after a disappointing showing at Case last week.

Kenosha Bradford at Kenosha Tremper - Conceivably the winner of this game could be in the playoffs if they get a win week 9, which is certainly possible given each teams matchup.  That being said, although Bradford has had a rough go of it, I think they are still the better team here.  Tremper still seems like they have a long way to go, starting to feel pretty confident about my 2-7 prediction for them which got me into hot water with Coach McGranahan on this very site...although at this point 4-5 isn't out of the realm of possibilities either.

Racine Case at Racine Park - Another matchup where the winner has a good shot to get into the playoffs.  I agree with DB that Park's road appears to be easier given they have Bradford and Case has KIT week 9.  I'll also echo his sentiments that Park's D will give Case fits and this will be a low scoring affair.

I will be interested to see how the SEC teams are grouped come playoff time.  Last year was a weird year with Franklin getting sent to a separate region than the rest.  I have to imagine the Saber coaching staff would prefer to not be grouped with Muskego in hopes of being able to avoid them until Madison, not that getting to Madison is a guarantee either way.

Probably depends on how many get in, though most, if not all, would be lumped in the D1 Southeast group. Only question is whether Park slides below the D1 cutline or not. Not sure they'd want to, an SEC rematch in L1 might be their best hope to win.

Last year's D1 SE regional was basically the Marquette Invitational. This year is shaping up to be far more competitive. After beating Riverside, it's hard not to see an undefeated conference champ King as at least a legit #2 seed. Franklin as the SEC champ ought to be the #1 seed but could be pushed to #2. Where Muskego-- obviously a top seed in either SE or SW depending-- and Mukwonago land will have at least as much to say about that as anything, as well, and while Marquette won't come in as an undefeated conference champ this time, they could also make some noise.

All told, the teams are there to make this year's D1 southeast bracket the most interesting it's been in a long, long time.

Racine Horlick at Franklin - Franklin's been going up by so much so fast that their starters' stat lines have looked deceptively underwhelming. It definitely doesn't make me feel any better regarding their ability to duke it out with more battle-tested teams in the later rounds of the playoffs. Horlick has not been themselves, but they still have the ability to play the Sabers tough-- which might be the best possible thing for both of these teams.

Oak Creek at Kenosha Indian Trail - I'm just not able to pick OC in a big game until they actually win one. Don't get me wrong, I'd like to see them win and set up a rivalry match with Franklin that feels meaningful. I simply don't feel confident that they can make that happen.

Kenosha Bradford at Kenosha Tremper - This matchup has never felt as close as it does right now. For years Tremper was a powerhouse, then Bradford took their turn for a few seasons running that single wing... maybe the only silver lining of KIT opening for these two schools has been the way it's levelled this rivalry and made it more competitive than it's probably ever been.

Racine Case at Racine Park - I'd like to see Park win and sneak into D2, because I'd like to see them outside of the SEC.  A D2 bracket with a couple SLC schools, Waukesha West, the Brookfields… sure it sounds like a murderer's row but are any of those teams better than Franklin? I don't think so. And the Panthers were able to compete with Burkett and Co. I'd pay to see their Level 1 game for sure, so c'mon Park, win this game and help make the playoffs fun again.

Racine Horlick at Franklin - The Sabers keep on rolling.

Oak Creek at Kenosha Indian Trail - KIT has all the momentum right now and they've been more consistent and are really starting to get hot at the right time. A loss here could really mess them up and OC would love to do that, but I don't see that happening. I expect KIT to keep that momentum going with another win here.

Kenosha Bradford at Kenosha Tremper - Neither team is very good and hasn't been very impressive all year, but somehow one of these teams may still have a shot at the playoffs yet. I know Tremper would love nothing more than to beat Bradford and spoil those chances especially as it's Trempers Homecoming game. A win against Bradford would definitely make them feel a little better considering how the season has gone. This game could go either way and anything is possible during rivalry games such as this one. I'm going to give the edge to Tremper in a close one.

Racine Case
at Racine Park - Both teams are hungry to make something happen and get into the playoffs. Park is going for the sweep, but Case won't make that easy. Park has shown improvement, but didn't perform well last week against OC. Can they rebound and get a big win here? Meanwhile this is a must win for Case as they got KIT next week and i'm sure there still kicking themselves for that loss to Tremper. This game will have a playoff atmosphere for sure and both teams need a win. I'm leaning more towards Case in this one as they will find a way to grind out a victory. Case picks up the win in a close one.

Racine Horlick at Franklin: Unlike previous meetings Horlick won't give Franklin much issues here.

Oak Creek at Kenosha Indian Trail: As much as I see Oak Creek pulling this one on the road, they seem to punt it in these type of situations.

Kenosha Bradford at Kenosha Tremper: Uh I guess here.

Racine Case at Racine Park: Come on Case. End the Streak here.
