Week One Matchups

Thursday, 8/22

Bay View at South Division
Bay view had a solid showing at their scrimmage. Appears to have a couple playmakers that could help them with a playoff push. South is struggling with down numbers. BV gets the trophy back.

Reagan at Pulaski
Reagan controls the clock and puts it on the young Pulaski squad.

Bradley Tech at Kenosha St. Joseph’s
Not sure what either team has but I’ll assume St. Joes has the upper hand. Interested to see what Stevie Calvin can do with this program.

Shoreland Lutheran  at Hamilton

Friday, 8/23

Riverside at Pewaukee
Riverside, the favorite to repeat as conference champs has a deep squad returning. Not as deep as the year before and they lost in this first week matchup. Could go either way, good week one test for the Tigers again.

Marshall at Horlick
Another game that I believe could go both ways. Marshall is deep and Amareon Allen is one of the best individual players in the conference. I’m going with consistency but with caution.

Shorewood/Messmer at Rufus King
Messwood lost a decorated senior class and may have a tough time organizing things for week one with this young team. On the other hand King is an experienced team that is hungry for a win against this team. The addition of the four star defensive lineman Cam Done could certainly help.

Hope Christian at North Division
ehh... crapshoot

St. Francis at Vincent
Hopefully Vincent remembers their game is on Friday after missing their scrimmage. With that being said, Vincent on paper could have one of the best teams in the entire city conference. I’m hoping Coach Covington can keep this competitive. Vincent could very well be more talented but the consistency and discipline in the St. Francis program should get this done.

Obama SCTE at Roncalli
Rooting for Coach Greer. Milwaukee Madison misses him.

Milwaukee Lutheran at Hamilton
ML loses their best player at RB but should still have enough to muster up a W against a new team and head coach over at Hamilton.

FWIW, there was a typo in the original post and Hamilton is playing Shoreland Lutheran, which has been a good game the past few seasons, but SL brings back a lot this year whereas Hamilton is nearly starting over.

Not sure if that changes the pick or not.

Week One Matchups

Bay View at South Division . Bring the ball back- should never have left.
Reagan at Pulaski - RHS will be solid within their conference this year.  Very decent sized OL who plays very scrappy.
Bradley Tech at Kenosha St. Joseph's Excited to see Calvin get this thing going right way.  He will.
Shoreland Lutheran at Hamilton . Coin flip?

Friday, 8/23

Riverside at Pewaukee . If I am wrong here, Riverside will be very good this year.  Love how their coaching staff schedules those barometer games.
Marshall at Horlick
Shorewood/Messmer at Rufus King
Hope Christian at North Division
St. Francis at Vincent - where it all began (for me)....excited to see the new turf and break it in.

Bay View at South Division - Last year was a bit rough for Bay View as they had to break in a lot of inexperienced players. This year should see marked improvement. South will be South. Low on numbers, but always scrappy.

Reagan at Pulaski - The "Reagan Train" rolls on into another season. They know who they are and what they want to do. They'll win most weeks in the City because of it. Pulaski remains an enigma at this point with the loss of the Arts from the co-op. Numbers and youth have been their bug-a-boo recently. hard to see that changing.

Bradley Tech at Kenosha St. Joseph's - It flew under the radar this off-season, but Swittel stepped down from Tech when they added the School of the Arts and made it a co-op, meaning later practices which the retired Swittel didn't have time for (I think he just wants to watch son TC at Michigan Tech, but I digress). Stevie Calvin, a member of Tech's state runner-up team in 1986, takes over after a year away from the prep game. He built a real solid MPS program at Marshall in recent times and has a real good chance of doing the same down in Walker's Point. For St. Joe's, another year, another coach. Jake Gessert is still at QB, but they are a bit of an unknown at the moment.

Shoreland Lutheran at Hamilton - This has been a nice little NC matchup for both programs the last few years. Hamilton took it a year ago, but faces a lot of uncertainty with just three returning starters this year. Shoreland does have a good nucleus returning and is poised to make moves in the Metro Classic.

Friday, 8/23

Riverside at Pewaukee - I heard Pewaukee had an odd off-season and enters this year with some uncertainty again. Riverside almost caught them napping last year, and could actually do it this year. Plenty of talent returning, and it'd be a bit of a surprise if Riverside is touched in the City this year.

Marshall at Horlick - This has been a bridge too far for Marshall the past few years, and I don't see that changing this year, even against a Horlick team with a lot of new faces. Marshall's depth will serve them well in the Blackbourn though.

Shorewood/Messmer at Rufus King - S/M got the best of King last year, but the co-op loses a metric ton from last year's Woodland-East championship squad. King meanwhile returns as much experience as you could ask for, and is certainly chomping at the bit to get a measure of revenge here and certainly down-the-line against Riverside.

Hope Christian at North Division - If, and that's a big if, this game gets played, the players that should be returning for North are far superior than who should be returning for HOPE.

St. Francis at Vincent - The opening game for the brand-spanking-new facility at Vincent Stadium. As it turns out, St. Francis will be breaking in a new QB this year, but he has a pretty good RB to feed behind him. This was a 49-0 win for the Mariners a year ago, but it wouldn't surprise me if it was somewhat more competitive this time around.

Obama SCTE at Roncalli - Obama should be pretty good again in the Blackbourn, but history has not been on their side when they go up (or down) the Lake Michigan shoreline to play out-of-conference.

Bay View at South Division: Don't think South is going to catch Bay View napping again.
Reagan at Pulaski: Scrum offense will light up the new scoreboard at Pulaski.
Bradley Tech at Kenosha St. Joseph's
Shoreland Lutheran at Hamilton

Friday, 8/23

Riverside at Pewaukee: Pewaukee is starting to slip down the West pecking order in recent times. Riverside on the other hand could cause issues here and will be the force in the City again this year.
Marshall at Horlick: Horlick should ease into the season with a big win.

Shorewood/Messmer at Rufus King: Always a nice local non-con here. King gets revenge this year.
