Deerfield at St. John's NWMA - Wouldn't have dreamed making this pick a scant 12 months ago, but SJNMA has really figured it out. Amazing what having qualified coaches can do for a program. Also having some good players come out for the team/transfer in. From the film I watched these two Austin boys are players, particularly #44. Waupun is really, really down, but the Lancers may be competitive in this league. A win here could go a ways in affirming that.

Living Word Lutheran at Catholic Central - BCC did as I thought they might and turned their season opener into a grinder. Take away Muellenbach's TD run and they generated almost no offense though. Work in progress. LWL had an interesting Week 1, having to end their game early due to injury concerns. Without knowing for sure (as they may have been down players heading into the game), I have some ideas about what may have happened in that game to cause them to lose more kids and suddenly cite safety as a reason to end the game. Just speculation though. Their situation is precarious (half the roster are freshmen of varying sizes) and will have to be monitored throughout the season. A lot of opponents holding their breath, no doubt.

Darlington at Lake Country Lutheran - LCL came out and punched Springs in the mouth right away last Saturday, and although the champ fought back to a near stalemate, it was turnovers and special teams play that won it for LCL. Darlington remains mid-pack SWAL, so I can't see the Lightning having trouble here.

University School at Martin Luther - Here we are all worried about Martin Luther losing Crawley-Reid and they go and unleash Air Hoppert on us. Too bad coach didn't stick around WAC through, say 2021.😎 Is Boyd really not playing QB for USM? Not sure I get that.

St. Thomas More at St. Francis - Is STM running a new offense? I noticed Boelkow carried the ball a lot. I applaud anything that gets the ball moving towards the LOS quickly for a struggling program. Can't get cute when you ain't pretty. SF had some issues with Vincent's speed-and-size in Week 1...that likely won't come into play again until the LCL showdown.

Kenosha Christian Life at Wonewoc-Center/Weston - The home side are two long-struggling programs who have come together but not found much more in the way of success. BA beat them in a fill-in game last year. I'm not sure how much they've improved, but another KCL win here wouldn't shock me.

Milwaukee Reagan at Brookfield Academy - Until BA's Week 1 showing, I had this penciled as another City non-con W. Now, I'm not as sure. Some player personnel changes made by BA seem to be paying dividends on the field. This should be a good competitive game and I'll give the nod to the Huskies.

Kenosha St. Joseph's at Hope Christian - You always hope that HOPE finds some level of continuity...but way-too-much of a revolving door over there for that to be. Not much leadership in the school as a whole.from what I gather. KSJ wasn't particularly great in Week 1, but they won't need to be here either.

Deerfield at St. John's NWMA: While I was thinking the Waupun game was gonna be close, St. John's blew them out of the water on both sides of the ball. What a complete turnaround for that program. In comes another struggling program in Deerfield and if St. John's pole-axes here, then I have to rethink my placement of the Lancers.

Living Word Lutheran at Catholic Central: The big question is will LWL make it through the season? If last week's game against Menominee Indian proved anything, it'll be a slog and possibly ending prematurely if injuries keep piling up.

Darlington at Lake Country Lutheran: It wasn't that long ago that Darlington was Springs biggest challenge in D5/6. LCL punched the Ledgers in the mouth early and held them off in convincing fashion. LCL rolls.

University School at Martin Luther: Luther shouldn't have much in the way of problems here.

St. Thomas More at St. Francis: It looked like STM had some sort of offensive scheme going for them against KCL. At least that's going for them however they got considerably banged up as a result. St. Francis got a big scare from Vincent but should roll here.

Kenosha Christian Life at Wonewoc-Center/Weston: Dare I say it? KCL goes to 2-0 here. Not sure what to make of the Ridge and Valley this year yet.

Milwaukee Reagan at Brookfield Academy: Could go either way here but the City was impressive in non-cons last week so I have to trend that way.

Saturday, 8/31

Kenosha St. Joseph's at Hope Christian: Not sure who cancelled last week between North and Hope, but regardless KSJ breezes past here.
