D1:

Milwaukee Marshall at Marquette - Marquette not getting the team they expected, but they should be fine here regardless. Hit a few big pass plays early, contain Allen, and Marshall will get down on themselves and then it becomes a rout. Scuffle early and you give them hope, and then maybe it gets tricky.

D4:

Martin Luther at Lake Mills - Lake Mills has a one-man wrecking crew at QB. How this game plays out will tell me a lot as to how much, if at all, Lake Mills could play with CMH. The L-Cats should win comfortably, but ML has enough tools to perhaps keep it interesting for a bit.

D5:

Cedar Grove-Belgium at Racine St. Catherine's - CG-B is a well-established program and will not be intimidated by the Angels. At the end of the day though, I think St. Cat's just has too many weapons for the Rockets and wins by 3-4 scores.

Lomira at Lake Country Lutheran - This year's LCL team is so hard to get a read on. They should be able to handle Lomira here (I'm not sold on Flyway strength beyond Springs at all this year), but a tight game really doesn't bode well for LCL in a hypothetical matchup with RSC.

D6:

Cambridge at Racine Lutheran - Cambridge struggled with Brookfield Academy this year and RaLu beat the doors off of them a year ago. Have to imagine this game will only be notable as the game where the state got a new all-time leading rusher. Hopefully they pull him after that, there's bigger fish to fry.

D7:

Catholic Central at Hilbert - As expected BCC ground down a decent, but not spectacular Randolph team on the road. The bad news is they still didn't find enough offense to convince me they can take out a high-powered Hilbert rushing attack featuring numerous three-year starters. Hilbert believes it's their time to make a run and I have a hard time envisioning this particular version of BCC stopping them...they may slow them considerably, but will that be enough without much offense?

D4:

Martin Luther at Lake Mills - It sounds like Lake Mills is the real deal to judge by what people here are saying.  I may not know much about them or their conference, but I'm not sold on GML this season and they lack the special playmaker they had on their side a year ago. The Green Lutherans won't roll over for anyone but this might be the game where their run ends.

D5:

Cedar Grove-Belgium at Racine St. Catherine's - I agree with DB that CGB won't be intimidated here, but a trip to "historic" Horlick Field will sure be interesting for their parents and fans. Hard to see the Angels falling down at home, and they'd have to trip up a little bit to drop this one.

Lomira at Lake Country Lutheran - Everyone wants to see LCL against the Angels, but these Lightning can't look past Lomira.  They've been here before so it's a safe bet that won't.

D6:

Cambridge at Racine Lutheran - Purple Lutherans keep running.

D7:

Catholic Central at Hilbert - If Catholic Central wins, will a kid from Hilbert tweet more nasty things about the WIAA?

FWIW, St. Cat's are hosting all their playoff games at Kenosha Bradford. Racine Lutheran is hosting all of theirs at Union Grove.

Not entirely sure why that's allowed given both Hammes and Horlick are available. I know those are grass vs. turf at the others, but come on, seems mildly unfair, doesn't it?

That is a strange decision. I don't understand why either school would do that, apart from the question of turf. There's nothing wrong with Horlick or Hammes and, all kidding aside, both have historically been great venues for a playoff game.

There’s actually a very good reason for Horlick Field not being used and that’s because it’s hosting a Semi Pro game this Friday. Also Saturday is reserved for the Youth Football championship games for RYS. As for Hammes I can’t be certain but I think it’s because it’s not an eligible field unless Case were the home team given they were in the playoffs this year(obscure rule I was told about by a friend that I’m not sure actually exists)

Both Bradford and UG were in the playoffs and long shot as it may have been could have hosted at some point. I don't think that's it. RaLu used UG last year too (granted Horlick was in).

Barring unforeseen or unplayable circumstances both of those teams should be using their normal/local field when possible L1-3 (A Racine Raiders game would obviously take precedence). Heck, play on Saturday (I miss those Saturday matinee WIAA playoff games).

Maybe it wouldn't matter but I wouldn't be terribly thrilled to get RSC or RaLu on a faster track this time of year...but I guess "if there's turf, find and use it" rules the modern game. St. Cat's going down to Bradford is just strange to me.

Maybe Hammes was reserved for the soccer playoffs or something similar. Even so... Bradford? The stadium situation in Racine these days boggles the mind. Sort of like the RYS/SEYFA thing.

Agreed on the matinees. OC v Arrowhead at Hammes (i.e. the downfall of the Koch Era) was on a Saturday. I miss the days of Metro Conference football games at Pershing Park right along the lakefront—now THAT would have been a homefield edge for the Angels. And Bradford themselves used to play at Carthage College. I‘m assuming Carthage no longer enters Art Keller Field as a WIAA playoff site, but being north and east they’d be a good site for St. Cat’s too.

Milwaukee Marshall at Marquette: Okay raise your hands if you thought Marshall would be the last City team left after last week? Marquette ground and pounded while getting big plays out of the passing game last week in their big win over Manitowoc and I expect the same this week.

D4:

Martin Luther at Lake Mills: Last game at their venerable home field for the L-Cats. I think they send it off on a good not over a very game Spartans squad.

D5:

Cedar Grove-Belgium at Racine St. Catherine's: Normally this would be a level 3 game but the way the region was put together, this becomes a level 2 game. Doubt the Rockets have enough answers for St. Cat's offensive attack.

Lomira at Lake Country Lutheran: Now LCL does away with BA again, here comes upstart Lomira to Hartland. Doubt the outcome changes much here.

D6:

Cambridge at Racine Lutheran: RaLu should get another dominating win on their way to a showdown against SMS.

D7:

Catholic Central at Hilbert: This isn't not your BCC-Hilbert matchup maybe your older brother remembers but it's nice that these two get together again in the postseason. If the Hilltoppers can find a way to squelch the rushing attack of the Wolves they could have a shot. Provided that they can generate enough offense which was an issue last week against Randolph.

Horlick is beat up and doesn’t have any grass left on it from 30-30 to play on. That happens when you play 4-5 games a week on it. Hammes you have to paint your own lines when you rent it. Can’t play Saturday games unless both teams agree to it. Also refs make more money doing a full day of youth football than one varsity game.

I'd be shocked if it did! That's part of the charm though.

I am aware that this is how things are, but certainly rue what has seemingly been relegated to the dustbin of history...*shrugs*
