Franklin at Muskego - I just don't know that this version of Franklin is quite ready to defeat Muskego. Muskego should be able to rack up the yards and control the clock making every Franklin possession count. Can Burkett avoid the big TOs that plagued him back in Week 1? If he can, it's the ticket to the Sabers pulling off a relative shocker.

Marquette at Bay Port - Would really like to see this one, but Suamico is a trek on a Friday night after work. Bay Port is really good, returns a ton of talent, but no one knows just how good as the FRCC was not in its greatest form this year. So this serves as the Pirates first real test...or maybe it won't be. Marquette did what they had to against Marshall, get on them early, let them make the mistakes and get out of there with a win. Still, I'm struggling to be inspired by this Marquette team. Not sure if their offense is up to the challenge that is Bay Port's defense.

D2:

Burlington at Waukesha West - I would expect Burlington to put up more of a fight than Wilmot, however, barring brutal conditions it doesn't appear Blount and the Wolverines are likely to bow out just yet. The difference between the SLC and C8 is bigger than you think...and the SLC is a good league too.

Brookfield East at Menomonee Falls - I would love to say I'm a believer in Falls, but I'm really not. So why am I picking them here? Getting a serious 2009 vibe from this team. They will be underwhelming for chunks of the game, but bam, their playmakers make one huge play and tides get turned. They "big played" Homestead to death the other night. Play-to-play Homestead was arguably the better team, but churning out yards means little when the other team is hitting for 76, 58, 62 and 37 (plus a kick return TD). Brookfield East should present a similar challenge, pretty good defensively, but lacking somewhat offensively. I think each team gets a couple big plays from their big names, but ultimately it's Falls ability to make headway through the air that moves them on. I do wonder if Boram sits out again if B'East and Hunt can exploit that for big gains moreso than Homestead.

Waunakee at Hartford - This pick would be Waunakee all day usually but they have been a MASH unit as of late and have just squeaked by in the first two levels. This won't be easy for Hartford, but I like their moxie this year. Conditions were bad last week, so they ran it and were able to do so successfully, while shutting down a Holmen rushing attack, holding them 300 yards below their average.

D4:

Lake Mills at Catholic Memorial - Decent chance CMH gets scored upon here, but Lake Mills had a handful with ML and Hoppert for nearly three quarters last week. Now they get Fox and Co. If I can get out to a game on Friday, I might check this one out. Really wanna see the LM QB and what, if anything, he can do against CMH's defense.

Franklin at Muskego - Like I said on the other board, I think the offenses rule the day in this one and I think Franklin comes out ahead thanks to their QB.

Marquette at Bay Port - Boy, it's tough to know what to think about Bay Port. Very impressive record, strong tradition the last few years, undefeated and largely unchallenged all year in a conference whose signature program (Notre Dame) had a historically down year. Then you look at the stats, they're a run-first group-- and that plays right into the hands of Marquette's backer-led, 3-4 defense. On the flip side, Marquette's only comparable opponents (Muskego and Brook East) were both early losses where the defense played well enough to win but their own offense just couldn't get untracked.  The Hilltoppers have three players who can tilt the field-- Nigro, Lewandowski, Coury-- and all three play on D and S/T. Those guys should show up again, so the difference between the Muskego/East games and Level 3 for MUHS needs to be the offense and their playmakers on that side stepping up like they did against Brook Central and every week since. I think they do it.

D2:

Burlington at Waukesha West - This regime in Burlington has never shown the ability to slow down even a halfway-decent SLC passing game. What they're going to see from West and their highly-trained QB is at a completely different level. The Demons had better pray for some kind of winter storm warning-type weather because I don't see how they even challenge the Wolverines without it. They will need to try to run the ball and control the clock against a team that's faced Muskego, Mukwonago, Memorial and... well, the Falls JV, but the score still counts.  Of course I could be wrong, but in one man's opinion this game has all the makings of a blowout.

Brookfield East at Menomonee Falls - This East team, and specifically the way they feature Hunt, is starting to remind me of their state championship team and Sam Santiago-Lloyd. Don't get me wrong, Hunt and the big guy were completely different runners, but the way they're leaning on a strong D, the stud RB and a secondary threat from a tough runner at QB feels very familiar. It's a formula that has worked for them before and not that long ago. Falls has more ways to hurt you, but at this time of year that playoff experience on the sideline can be a huge difference-maker. I'm taking East to shut down Falls' top threats and own the LOS on the way to Level 4.

Waunakee at Hartford (Bonus Pick) - After Falls handled Homestead last week, I'm not buying the 2019 North Shore and as a result I'm a little skeptical of Hartford's path to this point. I admittedly know nothing about Waunakee this season, and what DB says about injuries gives me pause, but at the end of the day I get the sense they've played better teams along the way and I nearly always pick based on conference strength in the playoffs.

D4:

Lake Mills at Catholic Memorial - Honestly? I feel like this one could be a KM-type shocker for CMH, especially if they're starting to believe their own hype about an easy path to the D4 gold ball. I don't actually think the upset will happen, but it could and that's the thing that Young and his staff will need to guard against. Fortunately for everyone in Crusaderland, there's nobody better at keeping their team focused on the opponent at hand.
