Badgers a bit banged up going into the Central Michigan game.  However, after the CMU game Bucky has 2 weeks off before hosting Michigan on 9/21.

6 Badgers may miss Saturday's game because of injury:  tight ends Luke Benzschawel and Zander Neuville, inside linebacker Chris Orr, offensive tackle Logan Bruss, outside linebacker Izayah Green-May and Safety Scott Nelson.

With the tremendous depth UW has at virtually all positions, the timing for the injuries couldn't come at a better time.

Baun, Biadasz, Taylor Finalists for National Awards

"Zach Baun was named a finalist for the Butkus Award on Monday, an honor given to the nation’s top linebacker. Baun has 9½ sacks, 16 tackles for loss, 53 total tackles, two forced fumbles and an interception return for a touchdown this season.

Tyler Biadasz is a finalist for the Outland Trophy, given to the best interior lineman. He’s been the rock of the offensive line, and is the only lineman to start all 11 games. He’s anchored the unit that clears the path for UW’s 2,754 rushing yards this season.

Junior Jonathan Taylor was named a finalist for the Doak Walker Award, given to college football’s top running back. Taylor, who won the Doak Walker award last season and was a finalist in 2017, has 1,685 rushing yards and has a career-high 18 rushing touchdowns and 22 total touchdowns this year."

2019 All-American & Individual post-season awards continue to roll in at the national level for the football Badgers

At last week's prestigious 2019 College Football Awards Banquet, running back Jonathan Taylor was named the recipient of the Doak Walker Award, given annually to the nation's best running back.  It is the 2nd consecutive season in which Taylor has won the award.  Tyler Biadasz was presented the Rimington Award, given to the nation's best center.

Several All-American teams have been released in the past week.  3 Badgers have figured prominently on these squads.  Jonathan Taylor and Tyler Biadasz have been consensus 1st-team members on virtually every team announced thus far:  The Walter Camp Foundation, Sports Illustrated, ESPN, Football Writers of America, Sporting News and the Associated Press.  Outside linebacker Zach Baun was named to Walter Camp's 1st-team and to the 2nd-team of most every other team.

To the surprise of no one, Jonathan Taylor declared for the NFL Draft.

Joining him today in declaring was Quintez Cephus.

Tyler Biadasz is also headed to the greener pastures of the NFL.

ESPN's Mel Kiper rates Biadasz as the No. 1 center -- and No. 24 NFL draft prospect overall.

"Bit of a surprise ?"  I would say "major surprise !"

With the departures of senior wide receiver A.J. Taylor and junior Quintez Cephus (NFL Draft), Cruickshank was in line for a lot more snaps in 2021 as part of a receiving corps which would appear to include Kendrick Pryor, Danny Davis  and Jack Dunn.  Also, for the first time since David Gilreath's departure in 2014, the Badgers finally had a legitimate return man.

Big loss for the Badgers, IMO ...

Make that 5 key early departures for UW underclassmen since the Rose Bowl game:  Jonathan Taylor, Quintez Cephus, Tyler Biadasz, Christian Bell and now Aron Cruikshank.

I don't think Cruikshank was ever going to see any considerable time at WR based on his size and frame and seeming lack of WR skills. I think his contributions were going to continue to largely be limited to being a dangerous kick returner and a threat on jet sweeps. He was seemingly behind both Dunn and Krumholz on the depth chart at WR, which doesn't bode well for someone with that kind of athletic ability.

I do agree Cruikshank had some limitations at the WR position beginning with his ability to get off the line of scrimmage when pressed.  And, I would agree his problems in that regard were due to his lack of size, frame, and no doubt lack of upper body strength.

I'm also wondering if the once-promising WR Taj Mustapha has developed enough to warrant more playing time ... I read recently that Mustapha also has issues getting off the line of scrimmage.

He is heading to Big 10 "rival" Rutgers..

https://247sports.com/Article/Rose-Bowl-kick-return-Aron-Cruickshank-Wisconsin-Rutgers-commitment-142452267/

Maybe a bit of homesickness involved?

There were also plenty of times he missed his family when it was not game day, and that led to his transfer from the Badgers after the Rose Bowl, and his subsequent signing of grant-in-aid papers at Rutgers during a weekend official visit.

“It is definitely something I needed,” Cruickshank said. “When I was at Wisconsin, it was hard because I didn’t have any family out there. I didn’t have anybody out there like that for me. At Rutgers, I will have more people within my reach and family can always come over.”
