New Berlin Eisenhower at Shorewood/Messmer (Woodland Championship) - Ike will get to see some speed before the playoffs, but should have little trouble here. Messwood will get a couple big plays in, but not sure they get to the endzone against such a stout D...

Greendale at South Milwaukee - We seem to see a lot of SM in the crossovers.
New Berlin West at Cudahy - The packers find themselves in the playoffs.
Pewaukee at Whitnall - Pewaukee was able to eek out a win against Wisco and earned the easier game.
Wisconsin Lutheran at Milwaukee Lutheran - Wisco get's a little better game than most...and they need this to qualify.
West Allis Central at Greenfield - torn...really torn. I want to pick GF, but I feel WAC has the horses to win it. If Bartlett was still playing, I'd lean it back the other way...
Pius XI at Brown Deer - WhileI won't be surprised if the East goes 3 and 4 against the west, I'd be very surprised if the West sweeps the east. BD has been in almost every game against eastern opponents (exception being SM) so I see them handling Pius.

New Berlin Eisenhower at Shorewood/Messmer - I mean, I'd actually love to say this one could be tight for awhile thanks to S/M's solid D and IKE's relatively quiet offense...just can't do it though. Hard not to cheer for S/M, and as someone's who's followed the co-op since the beginning, it's no small feat that they've won a big school division/conference title...even if it is the Woodland-East.

Friday, 10/12

Greendale at South Milwaukee - Greendale obviously hoping for a good draw, and it's already bouncing their way as they look headed to D3. For SM, a chance to show continued improvement. The question is, does Galewski become full-time HC again after this year? Could make a big difference if he does going forward.

New Berlin West at Cudahy - Two playoff-bound teams. The gap between these two will be telling...which says something because NBW isn't exactly on the verge of tearing up D3 themselves. Cudahy, glad you're getting better, sorry about the CMH thing next week.

Pewaukee at Whitnall - Lot for Whitnall to play for here...namely a playoff berth. Whitnall can run the football, but their D is so porous it's hard for me to see them stopping even an average Pirates squad,

Wisconsin Lutheran at Milwaukee Lutheran - Borderline absurd what happened at ML, but here we are...not as if the East is likely to net any playoff wins anyway. For WISCO, they find themselves in the same situation as last year...needing a win in the final Crossover to qualify for the playoffs. Last year ended with a shocking loss to Shorewood/Messmer and the end of their WIAA playoff streak. Will that happen again here? Smart money says no, with a convincing win over ML already, to mention nothing of what have to be dampered spirits over there on Grantosa Ave. Still, the Vikings have made a habit lately of snatching bad results from the jaws of what used to be easy Ws...

West Allis Central at Greenfield - The Ringelberg Bowl...I guess. I almost wanna choose the Bulldogs here. If there's any team better than WAC that could find a way to lose to them it'd be the Stumblin' Hawks...but they'd have to completely fall down, I think, for that to happen.

Pius XI at Brown Deer - Not entirely sure of BD's roster make-up to know if they have enough to build on this much-improved season, but they should go out with a victory here...avenging last year's crossover rout by the Popes.

Game of Note

Medford at Ashland - My uncle works with Medford's RB's mom, plus they've been the best program in an underwhelming GNC for years now, so I'll take them. I remember when future Badger Ethan Hemer was an unstoppable force for them.

New Berlin Eisenhower at Shorewood/Messmer (Woodland Championship) - One of these programs has a fascinating nonfiction book written about it, and it isn't Eisenhower. Nevertheless, they roll here, although it won't help them any when they face Memorial in a few weeks.

Friday, 10/12

Greendale at South Milwaukee - The muck that is SM's swamp will slow Greendale down, but I don't think the Rockets are strong enough in the trenches this year to take advantage of what's going to be an extremely muddy field. RE: Galewski, most people I know would take him as HC as long as he wanted to do it, but it isn't their call-- or mine.  And who knows if he wants to stick around?  Pretty sure he retired from the baseball job already, and that was his first love.

New Berlin West at Cudahy - A draw like this one and next week's are the result of the imbalanced Woodland divisional format. Some reward for the hard work of building a program. I'll say it again: This conference should restructure itself, because this have/have-not BS doesn't help anyone.

Pewaukee at Whitnall - Can't imagine Pewaukee dropping this one.

Wisconsin Lutheran at Milwaukee Lutheran - Thirty years ago, Milwaukee Lutheran had one of their best seasons ever yet despite two shots at it-- regular season and playoffs-- they still couldn't beat Greg McThomas and the Marquette Hilltoppers.  2018 is hardly one of the Red Lutherans' best seasons ever, but I think they'll have the same problem with Wisco in this rubber match.

West Allis Central at Greenfield - If I could wager against Greenfield in Vegas, I'd have been eating steak and lobster nearly every Saturday night of this season. No reason to change that habit here. These teams are a mirror image but I think WAC is hungrier for the W.

Pius XI at Brown Deer - BD has been in most of their games against better teams than Pius. That said, I don't see Pius rolling over... I just think BD is ready to notch another win.

New Berlin Eisenhower at Shorewood/Messmer - More picks to come later, I have some other deadlines. I like IKE in the conference title game. This state of the union game will show the disparity between the 2 divisions. I expect a running clock in the conference title game which is kind of disappointing. IKE has a solid team but not a team for the ages that should be winning a #1 vs #1 showdown like this. We can debate about what the Woody needs to do at a later date.

IKE has come a long way since Oct. 17th, 2014 when they lost to Messwood 21-17. Messwood went the length of the field late in the 4th quarter to earn the victory. In that game, a young Jake Belongia returned a blocked kick for a td. Rastas and Canady were learning the game and a program was being built the way Kern wanted to build it. The sting of not making the playoffs was a catalyst for some of the things which are happening now.

Messwood won’t have any late drama tonight because Sean Crowley doesn’t like drama. Messwood will find it difficult to get first downs. This game will be played on one side of the 50. Messwood is a nice story but their record is deceiving because of their weak schedule. To their credit, they have found ways to win several close games. Tonight will be similar to what Messwood will experience in the playoffs.

IKE wants to keep evolving on offense. Jim Crowley will stick with what is working but would love to have balance. They know that better defenses await in the near future.

Mark Shields does not get frostbite. Mark Shields bites frost.

I can’t make the game tonight as I know the result and am a fan of billable hours. A dvd will be dropped off at my office tomorrow. Will Stoltz make the long trek to this game and support the champion of the West? Will Ringleburg head northeast and take notes on building a culture? I don’t believe the conference pass is valid tonight, so some folks will have to buy a ticket.

I think a turf field is in the future for IKE….more on that later. I look forward to seeing the draw on Sat.

Week Nine Matchups

Thursday, 10/11

New Berlin Eisenhower at Shorewood/Messmer (Woodland Championship) - Unfortunately, i do not believe the top three games will be close.*

Friday, 10/12

Greendale at South Milwaukee - *
New Berlin West at Cudahy - *
Pewaukee at Whitnall - No sure what to make of this game but it's another game I am not confident will be competitive.
Wisconsin Lutheran at Milwaukee Lutheran - Wind out of the sails for ML, guessing the gap could be larger in this rematch because of it.
West Allis Central at Greenfield - I do not know.
Pius XI at Brown Deer - Maybe the only game where the East should be considered the favorite.

Game of Note
Medford at Ashland - missed this on the first post I'll take the away team to keep the trend.

Congrats to Ike last night, they own the Woodland right now.

Friday, 10/12

Greendale at South Milwaukee - I don’t think Stoltz is sweating about this week, it’s almost a name the score game whether GD shows up or not. Is GD the team that out gained IKE significantly in a loss or the team that had to fight off NBW to the bitter end. They have probably earned an eventual date with CMH earlier than they would like, but let’s see what happens on Sat. morning. Does GD stay alive for several weeks or go out with a whimper?

New Berlin
West at Cudahy - Cudahy a three seed in the east. Eye Roll.....

Pewaukee
at Whitnall - Pewaukee wins soundly.

Wisconsin Lutheran at Milwaukee Lutheran - ML irate about forfeits scores a big win.

West Allis Central at Greenfield -GF caught a huge break this week and gets WAC in the crossover game giving them 3 wins instead of 2 for the season. Had Milwaukee Lutheran not had the forfeit situation, GF would have lost in their original slot. Many will view them as a 2-7 team anyway because of the switch. A loss to Cudahy can’t be good for morale, but there’s no way they can lose to WAC.

This regime fled WAC for the greener pastures with the Hustlin’ Hawks. They had 6 college players last year and were getting some votes in last year’s preseason D-2 rankings. It’s been a continuous slide and a lot of regression. Despite being in the East div. they were 3rd last year and only Brown Deer is below them now before GF gets a freebie tonight. There’s little doubt that the direction of the program will be getting a full evaluation. 1 of the wins on this regime’s resume was a win over HOPE while at WAC. HOPE will forfeit this week because they don’t have enough players! Quality wins are hard to find for this group. GF lost in week 1 to Union Grove who gave up 63 points along with 434 rushing yards last week.

Joe Koch is definitely not walking through that door. He’s happy in Texas. I can’t confirm that he bought a pair of cowboy boots and a 20 gallon hat.

This team definitely needs to have a 10th game instead of just turning in the equipment and calling it a season. It’s a chance for player development and culture building.

Flashback to 1989. Ron Nennig rushes for 223 yards on 40 carries and scores two Td's as WAC beats Greenfield 22-0.

Pius XI at Brown Deer - Other then parents who attends this?

Game of Note

Medford at Ashland - Ike dumped Ashland for a Ship a couple years ago.
