Kettle Moraine at Waukesha North - Kettle came back to Earth last week in a game that tells me there is a lot of parity behind Muskego in this league. It seems we say this ad nauseum, but North has to find wins in games like these to take that next step. Still don't see that happening.

Catholic Memorial at Arrowhead - Already feels like a season on the brink for Arrowhead. Scoreline last week was extremely flattering with two late scores on Muskego's 2s. Problem here is Arrowhead runs up against another buzzsaw with strength in the trenches and playmakers at the skill positions.

Waukesha South at Mukwonago - Impressive win from Mukwonago last week. 44 carries is a lot for one back though. Still if you're that effective... South, as has been the case recently, has some offensive talent, but depth and size never seem to be on their side, and defensively they suffer for it in this "big boys" conference.

Oconomowoc at Waukesha West - Everything about Oconomowoc says they should have success in the C8...just seems the move came two-to-three years too late. You have to hope lack of success doesn't kill the program, which seems to be happening in HS football all-too-frequently. West doesn't appear to be their normal juggernaut self but has more than enough to make the playoffs and win a game or two.

Muskego at Brookfield East - B'East really had trouble generating much offense against Marquette outside of two big pass plays. They're still alright defensively, but Marquette's back got his and more. Bosshart may be out for the foreseeable future, but surprise, surprise, Muskego slotted in a sophomore and hasn't missed a beat.

Kettle Moraine at Waukesha North - I can’t wait for the day North turns that corner and becomes a legitimate C8 contender each year. Just doesn’t seem to be in the cards yet... but patience is key... just ask KM.

Catholic Memorial at Arrowhead - 0-3 cannot be good in Arrowhead’s fanbase. It’s fairly unsettling that they got dominated on the LOS the first two weeks. CMH just happens to have serious beef in the trenches too...

Waukesha South at Mukwonago - What we witnessed last week was my gut telling me Muk would pull something and what do you know, it didn’t lie. Sadly, I listened to my head. South will get there eventually, hopefully, please?

Oconomowoc at Waukesha West - Look..... getting blitzed is one thing when you’re looking at who Cooney played, but my goodness.... a cellar finish looks very likely this season. Not what you wanna see when you’re in a tougher conference like this.

Muskego at Brookfield East - Word on the street is Bosshart will be gone a while? Nice knowing they plugged in a sophomore who’s just as productive. Don’t let the 42-20 score fool ya, that was a beatdown they laid on Arrowhead. They may well be a contender in D1.

Week Three Matchups

Friday, 8/31

Kettle Moraine at Waukesha North - Big Week One win for KM followed by a letdown in Week Two. Safe to say that learning to deal with success is a lesson in progress out there in Wales. North will challenge them but I think they bounce back here.

Catholic Memorial at Arrowhead - Arrowhead's numbers are fine and they have everything they had three years ago... except playmakers. Meanwhile, when there's a Fox playing QB for Memorial, it's generally a sign that they're making another run at a state title.

Waukesha South at Mukwonago - Nice win for Mukwonago last week against KM. South isn't bad, they're just stuck in a numbers game in this murderer's row of a conference.

Oconomowoc at Waukesha West - Cooney wasn't ready for the C8. Their on-year / off-year pattern didn't serve them well and now they really need to raise their game. They won't raise it to West's level this week.

Muskego at Brookfield East - Feel really bad for Bosshart, but at the same time his injury looks like a great Ewing Theory candidate.  The Wing-T is so much easier to defend when you know one guy's going to get it 20 times a game. Now that Muskego has proven they have multiple options, they might actually be scarier than they seemed before. That said... the Spartans' defense was really stout vs. MUHS. If that Pagel kid keeps it up he should get all-state consideration at LB. They stay stout and gap-sound. This is a legit GOTW candidate.

Games of Note

Fond Du Lac at Appleton North - Can Fondy rise to meet the expectations that go with ending The Streak? This game will tell us a lot.

Kenosha Bradford at Racine Horlick - I'm calling it early: Horlick was overrated. They might still win this one but to this point Bradford has been more impressive, so they get my vote here.

Wauwatosa West at Menomonee Falls - Any other year, I'd say West is poised for a breakout game but Falls is starting to look more and more like a beneficiary of the John Clay Rule. (For the uninitiated: Never pick against a man-sized D-1 running back.)

Kettle Moraine at Waukesha North: KM was brought back down to earth by Muk last week. North finds it tough sledding again this week.

Catholic Memorial at Arrowhead: Arrowhead goes 0-3? Yup and the fanbase again gets restless.

Waukesha South at Mukwonago: Nice win for Muk over Kettle last week. Unfortunately for South, their win over Cooney was probably their only win on the year.

Oconomowoc at Waukesha West: Another week, another beating for Cooney.

Muskego at Brookfield East: Despite the injury to Boshart, Muskego grinds out a tight win over a very game B'East team.
