I
t's the annual WSN tradition of deciding who will make it into the WSN Hall of Fame. This year stood out to us in a few ways. One was the movement to a new forum website after the old one kicked the (and disrupted Football Pick 'Ems) bucket in September. This year was also unique in the way that despite being  light on the amount of ballots sent in, we have the second biggest HoF class this year. So without further ado here is the 2017 Wissports HoF Inductees!

Do I still get in even with my username misspelled? [wink]

Seriously, though, this is very cool. Thanks to everyone who voted for me. They must all be old-timers to remember a poster like me who made his bones here when the site was brand spanking new.

But most importantly, did I beat Kern into the HOF? (Edited to add: No, and not even close. Now I’m questioning this whole HOF thing.)

Once again returning to seriousness, reading through those first three or four HOF classes brings back some real blasts from the past. Those were some fun times, talking SW Wisconsin HS sports with that gang. That’s honestly what pleases me most about this: that I’m joining this little club with them.

Yah considering that I was maybe home from work for about 30-45 minutes and coming down with a cold I may have misspelled your name. Congrats to all that made it in.

No hard feelings, amped, and I didn't mean to single you out. That's happened more than once.

Dang it, I missed getting my ballot in.................my bad!

It would have affected things a bit.

Congrats to those who made it!

What an honor! I have been fortunate to have been around since the early stages (wishoops.net).  It was always fun to be on here and talk about SLC (Southern Lakes Conference) rivalries and of course college/pro sports.

Thank you Nick Kartos for creating this site and helping it evolve into what it is today.  The coverage WSN provides for high school athletes in the state of Wisconsin is outstanding.  And no, Travis doesn't hate your school.

Thank you to those who voted for me, it has been fun over the years to interact with you all.

Thank you to all who voted me in. I know I haven't been as active lately but I still try to post when I can. As most around here know, my posts are usually not too long (unless I'm copying and pasting stats lol) so this will be a brief speech.

I should also thank fellow inductee Onpackerland because I likely would have never joined the site if it wasn't for him.

Congrats to all the others who made it in and received votes as well.

I'd like to personally thank those who voted and probably owe a huge debt of gratitude. I normally go on this web site frequently either to see what's on the message board and/or check box scores. Are there some members who simply chose to move on from following this site (I don't mean that as an insult) or sadly passed away way too soon such as Lee that I dearly miss, then yes. I still follow some sports such as football, basketball, baseball, and even auto racing namely NASCAR because I cared. That's all mattered.
"For some players, luck itself is an art."

"They say you're a man of vision."

"Welcome to NASCAR. Where the rules are made up and the points don't matter."

"What would you sell your freedom for?"
"Some Knicks tickets."

First off, a huge thanks to all those who voted for me - I have certainly not been a very active poster on here the past few years, great to be recognized for activity which hasn't been all that current.

I started frequenting Wissports shortly after beginning high school in 2006 (don't think I joined the forum until 2008 or so however). Before high school, I pretty much solely followed professional / college athletics, with the access to at least basic information readily available via the media. Once in high school, I realized the plethora of sports/teams/athletes there were to actively follow, yet access to information was either incomplete, obscurely buried on various websites, or downright publicly unknown. I saw Wissports as a place to not only find information for myself, but contribute to its collection of scores, stats, and observations to make it more complete. Even more so than posts made on the forum, I was happy to eventually help the overall website through data entry and even write a few conference basketball previews over the years.

Since high school, I have become quite disconnected from the high school sports scene of WI (change of location probably the number one reason). However, this forum still is a very frequent stop of mine. While the forum has slowed down over the years, I still see it as a place of unique information and observations for the WI teams I still try to closely follow (Badgers, Brewers, and Packers). DB, Mick, longball, and yzerman are just a few posters who currently come to mind who I truly appreciate for the insight they provide through this forum, and why I continue to "stop by" so much, even though I presently rarely post.

Lastly, a shout out to iwishiwasaballer and all the conversations we would have regarding sports and this forum while in high school. It is certainly fitting that we get inducted the same year!

Congrats to all of you. Very well deserved. And congrats to Ash on the Derek award. Good recipient. Although I don't post as often as I should, I am on here all the time putting in stats for football and basketball and I frequent the MLB board to see who is hating on who. Welcome to the club!

Congrats to you, onPackerland, and all of the other 2017 inductees on your election into the WSN HOF.

Thanks also, onPackerland, for your shout-out to DB, Longball, Yzerman and myself.

As you may or not be aware, the WSN HOF enshrinement ceremony & awards banquet will be held Thursday evening, February 29, 2018, coinciding with grand opening events at the new Barwick's Bar & Bistro (108th & National) location in West Allis, WI
.  Cash Bar opens at 6:30 pm, followed by dinner at 7:30 pm.  Following the meal, special guest Elroy "Crazylegs" Hirsch  will address the group and Master of Ceremonies Stan Bullock (Roadkill) will proceed with the HOF inductions.  Afterwards, those in attendance & their guests will be treated to an accoustic concert-in-the-round by yours truly (Mick Jagger) and an open bar until midnight.

RSVP to Joe Herte (Amped0808) c/o WSN by 2/14/18.

See you there !
