La Crosse comes back from an early 3-0 deficit to take a 9-3 lead and holds on for a 10-7 victory over Trinity to advance to the best-of-three Championship Series against the #1 team in the Nation, SUNY Cortland.

Unfortunately for the Eagles and their backers, La Crosse had to burn through their #1 and #2 pitchers against Trinity today, leaving them really short handed for the series against Cortland.

At last check, three La Crosse errors have led to four unearned runs for Cortland and they lead La Crosse 5-2 after four innings.

In what ended up being a virtual "throw away" game for La Crosse, they lose the opener of the best-of-three Championship Series to Cortland 11-3.

Why do I say "throw away?" Well when you choose to let your starting pitcher throw a complete game despite giving up 11 runs on 15 hits, it's evident that once the Eagles got down early they chose to lose the battle (Game #1) in hopes of having all available arms tomorrow and winning the series. Unfortunately for La Crosse, they will likely be facing a 2nd Team All American on the mound tomorrow, after facing a 3rd Team All American tonight.

UW-LaCrosse definitely has its back against a wall Wednesday as it heads into game 2 of the best-of-3 championship series vs Cortland St, already down one game to none. Cortland St has 4 legitimate starting pitchers, 2 of which are well-rested, if needed, on Wednesday.

Seth Lamando (6-0, .091 ERA), who will throw the 1st game for Cortland on Wednesday, will be pitching on 4 days rest. [:%] Lamando, was named a Freshman All-American by Louisville Slugger and the Big South Conference Freshman of the Year in 2013 while pitching for Coastal Carolina (D-1), before experiencing injury problems, causing him to take a year off from baseball and eventually transfer to Cortland St.

If a second game is needed Wednesday, 2015 D-3 Baseball 2nd-Team All-American and American Baseball Coaches Association 3rd-Team All-American Brandon Serio (8-0, 1.70 ERA) will take to the mound for Cortland St. Serio will be coming off 3 days rest, having last pitched on Saturday.

Cortland St's Brandon McClain (6-1, 2.22 ERA), who started the game vs UW-Lacrosse Tuesday night, was a 1st-Team American Baseball Coaches Association All-American in 2014 and a 3rd-team D3 Baseball All-American the same year. He has battled shoulder problems this season resulting in being able to pitch only approx. 53 innings.

Was really hoping to see La Crosse hold on for the 2-1 victory, just to see what they would have done with their pitching staff. Am guessing we would have seen some combination of Cejka and Boushley, but even then who know how long they could have gone. Oh well, I guess we'll never know now!!!

Congrats to the Eagles on a GREAT run!!! The runner-up trophy is nothing to sneeze at!!!

Up one game to none, going in, #1-ranked Cortland St (New York) (45-4) rallied for 5 runs in the top of the 9th inning, Wednesday afternoon, to defeat UW-Lacrosse (36-16), 6-2, in game 2 of the best of 3 NCAA D-III Championship Series to win its 1st baseball national title in school history.
