With winter sports wrapping up here in the next few weeks and the first day of baseball practice only 21 days away i think its time to talk some baseball.

Here are my predictions for the upcoming season:

1. Ellsworth- Grabbed the #2 ranking in this years preseason poll. Lose their #1 starter in James Georgakas however still return 3 very good pitchers in Logan Armstrong (2013 HM All Conference), Isaac Hines (2013 2nd Team All-Conference) and Brady Yanish. Also return 2 first team all-conference recipients in Nick Taranto and Dennis Schutz. Catcher Jonah Conway will take over behind the plate and Michael Koch will take over at 1st base. Will be solid defensively and on the mound only thing in question will be the offense.

2. Prescott- I feel they snubbed in the preseason rankings. Return a very good bunch of players including 3 1st team All-Conference recipients in Matt Holman, Mike Brookshaw and Alex Helmer. Also return Clay Seifert who earned 2nd team all-conference honors. Much like Ellsworth they will also be good defensively and on the mound but their offense will be in question. I believe its a 2 team race for conference champion this year with Ellsworth and Prescott but right now I give Ellsworth the edge.

3. New Richmond- Lost 2 1st team all-conference players. Hayden Nelson and Cameron Hausman should pitch the bulk of the innings for the Tigers this year. Lost 2 of their top 3 bats to graduation so Jeremy Leavens and Josh Kizer who both had very good seasons last year will need to step up. They potentially challenge for the conference title but I just don?t think they have the depth that Ellsworth and Prescott have so I have them finishing third.

4. Somerset- Lose 1st team all-conference recipient Nate Olin and 2nd teamer Jordan Langness, but return 2 HM All Conference selections in Tyler Lueck and Zack Waalen. I believe they have a new coach this year so we?ll have to see how it works out

5. Amery- 1st Team All-Conference and last years #1 starter Jake Mullendore is gone so Colin Bursik and Cody Moore will have to step up in the pitching department. Return 2nd team All-Conference recipient Broden Schock along with HM All- Conference Jordan Luehman.

6-8. Total toss-up between Osceola, Durand and Baldwin-Woodville.
