Went to the New Lutheran Blazers vs Kewaunee Indians... i mean Storm soccer game at kewaunee today.

New Lutheran took the victory in an 8-0 contest.

7:30 into the first half caleb benz of NEW made a pk to make 1-0 NEW. the PK was due to a handball in the box.

9:29 into the first half sam brock (i believe) scored a goal to make it 2-0

27:22 into the 1st half nathaniel shaefer made it 3-0

and 27:44 into the first half a blazer (idk who) scored a goal to make it 4-0 NEW

30:38 into the 1st half new scored another goal to make it 5-0

1:37 into 2nd half sam schaefer scored a goal to make it 6-0 NEW

10:22 into the 2nd half new scored another goal to make 7-0

and 16:31 into the 2nd half nathaniel schaefer made a pk to make it 8-0 NEW. the pk was due to a trip or push in the penalty box (not positive exactly what it was but think tripping_

this concluded the scoring for the game.

there was also a yellow card issued to the kewaunee goalie in the first half for arguing a goal that bounced off the inside of the post and then came out. the refs called it a goal and he disagreed. he sat the rest of the 1st half and beginning of 2nd half but then returned.

Wow, I hadn't looked at that, pretty impressive. That group of non-conference opponents may be the toughest out of any of the athletic teams at N.E.W., which is saying some thing with the schedule the volleyball team plays.

i heard some people talking about it at the game and decided to take a look and was impressed with the quality opponents. i remember hearing last year that both the soccer team and basketball team were looking to schedule some bigger/tougher schools for non conference games but now see the soccer team has indeed done that.

A little off topic, but have you seen the boy's basketball schedule yet? I looked for it a little bit today but couldn't find it.

Yeh, non-conference scheduling can sometimes be a little finicky for smaller schools like N.E.W. If you have to potential for a strong team its good to schedule the big and tough opponents, but then what do you do in years when your team isn't as strong? Maybe its more of a problem in volleyball where you like to find and stay in more particular tournaments, but I think coaches still hve to look into the crystal ball a bit and see what their teams may be like for the next couple of years. Regardless, it looks like N.E.W. will have the type of teams in boys soccer and basketball that will benefit from playing the big boys.

edit: took a look at new's non conference schedule from here on out and some solid competition

waunakee and gb southwest, pulaski for homecoming, the prairie school and notre dame

a couple of larger schools and the defending d3 state champ. should provide some good competition for the blazers and will help prepare them for the end of the season

went to southern door today for the new lutheran @ southern door soccer game today.

as expected NEW took this one easily. 10-0 with the game getting called about 5-10 minutes early due to the 10 goal rule. could have been over in the 1st half if the blazers had continued to attack instead of passing the ball around and not attempting to score. sam schaefer and caleb benz did not play for the blazers as they were rested due to minor injuries. backup goalie evan sizemore played the whole game in goal as starting goalie kristian zimmerman played out in the field.

1st half goals:

sam brock

andrew froelich

noah lange

nathaniel schaefer

dakota zinser. 3 goals for a hat trick.

this concluded the 1st half scoring. 7-0

2nd half

andrew froelich

kristian zimmerman

alex gast.

game called due to 10 goal rule. 10-0

edit: on another note the coaches poll came out.

DIVISION 3

2 The Prairie School
3 Racine St. Catherine?s
T4 Green Bay New Lutheran
T4 Oostburg

Honorable Mention

i am surprised sturgeon bay is not even honorable mention as i figured they would be ranked.

Kewaunee Star News August 31 soccer round up:

Soccer roundup: Wolves stall Storm
Kewaunee struggling to find the net

The Algoma soccer team shut out rival Kewaunee 3-0 in a home game Aug. 28.

A few minutes into the first half, the Wolves put themselves on the board with a penalty kick goal from Nathaniel Berg. That would be the only goal from either team for the rest of the first half.

Kewaunee put up a fight but couldn?t maintain ball possession near Algoma?s goal.

After a pep talk from head coach Brian Dawson, the Wolves looked more poised in the second half. Dawson said that his team ?didn?t come out playing their best in the first half, but recovered nicely in the second by playing within the system.?

Right out of the gate in the second half, Algoma?s Rodrigo Arvizu scored a goal, and a few minutes later Trey McAfee added another goal for the Wolves, putting them up 3-0 for good. It was the fifth consecutive game McAfee scored a goal.

Algoma dominated ball possession in the game, something Dawson said ?his team worked on a lot in practices.? The Wolves also had more than twice as many shots on goal as Kewaunee.

The victory marked the Wolves? fourth win in a row. For Kewaunee it was the Storm?s fifth consecutive scoreless game.

?We?re experiencing some growing pains at this time but I feel we?ll eventually be okay,? Kewaunee head coach Roberto Guillen said.

Kewaunee nearly ended the goalless drought in the final minute of the game, but Taylor Crabb?s shot just sailed left of the goal.

ALGOMA
Algoma is 4-1 (third place in Packerland Conference) as of Aug. 29.

? at GREEN BAY N.E.W. LUTHERAN (Aug. 16), L 5-1: Trey McAfee scored the Wolves? only goal. N.E.W. Lutheran really attacked the goal, and Wolves? goalie Jake Blazkovec did his best with 25 saves in the box.

? vs. GRESHAM (Aug. 21), W 5-3: The Wolves won their home opener with two goals from Rodrigo Arvizu and one goal each from Dakota Berg, Nathaniel Berg, and McAfee, who also had two assists.

? vs. ST. MARY CENTRAL (Aug. 23), W 3-2: In a tight game, goals from N. Berg, McAfee, and Cameron Reddemann made the difference.

? at MANITOWOC RONCALLI (Aug. 27), W 3-1: Arvizu, McAfee, and Tyler Pichette all had a goal each. Blazkovec had 15 saves in the box.

? at WRIGHTSTOWN (Aug. 30): Result will be printed in next week?s paper.

KEWAUNEE
Kewaunee is 2-6 (tied for fifth place in Packerland Conference) as of Aug. 29.

? at STURGEON BAY (Aug. 23), L 9-0

? at TWO RIVERS (Aug. 24), L 5-0

? vs. GREEN BAY N.E.W. LUTHERAN (Aug. 27), L 8-0

? vs. ST. MARY?S MENASHA (Aug 30): Result will be printed in next week?s paper.

Sturgeon Bay has been overlooked the last few years early in the season because they keep jumping between D2 and D3. They were D2 in 2009 and 2011 and D3 in 2010 and 2012. I think coaches are not sure what division they are in.
