Madison Memorial 56
Milwaukee King 43

MM overcame a 2-point halftime deficit to win the marquee matchup of the Eastbay/Converse Classic. After a lackluster first half in which Tre Creamer basically kept the Spartans in the game, Vander Blue came alive in the second half, hitting some big threes and making FTs late to put the game away, sealing it with a one-handed flush. Ed Kluender was MM's unsung hero, with some big blocks, rebounds and baskets down low particularly in the fourth quarter after King tied it at 40.

Memorial looks like a team that's still trying to find an identity, but this was a nice win for them. Some of these youngsters will need to step up their game as Blue, Creamer and Kluender accounted for all but 1 of MM's points. It should be pointed out that MM was still without Junior Lomomba, and super frosh Brendan Ortiz was in a walking boot.

For King, Courtlin Scott-Johnson hit a few big threes, and the team as a whole really got after things and made MM pay for some lazy passes.

As Travis mentioned in another thread, Port Washington downed Waupun, 73-67.

PW really played well just 20 hours after a double-digit defeat to Whitefish Bay. Josh Gasser was Josh Gasser, but PW also got big contributions from Shane Kennedy and Zach Schultz.

Austin Armga is one heckuva player for Waupun, as he led them with 31 points, although for a team as well-rounded as Waupun, I thought some of their other players got caught watching #1 too often. I was surprised by how much PW beat Waupun on the glass, and that's really where the game was won.

Poor shooting really, really hurt Wisco, as did some bad turnovers. Nicolet played well and deserves a lot of credit. Don't know the scoring breakdown for Nicolet, but Flavien Davis had 27 for Wisco.
