no surprises for the most part when it comes to seeding. Division 3 is very much an interesting division because all 4 teams that made it to state last year have a chance to return although Westfield didn’t do itself any favors and has to potentially go through Campbellsport, Mayville and Shoreland Lutheran to make a return trip. That would be a heck of a feat to beat as far as going through a gauntlet like that.

In D5 don’t sleep on Catholic Central, they play in a very tough conference and could make a state run if they can get past Oakfield this time around after losing by 1 run last spring(I think, correct me if I’m wrong.)
In D2 Martin Luther is a low seed with upset potential(keyword in that is potential.).

In D4 I think RaLu at a 5 seed is very much a team that can do something this postseason with the team they have. This is a battle tested squad and I think they were seeded so low simply because that section was loaded. Shades of football season anyone? This is exactly what the football team got in a nutshell and if they do themselves justice we could be looking at a few teams from the Metro Classic at state.

Can someone explain to me how a team that lost 7 of its last 8 games, finish tied for 5th in the WI Valley Conference with a 5-7 record and has an overall season record of 11-9, receives a #2 seed in the WIAA D-2, Section 1 bracket ???   Why have the coaches, both in the WFSCA polls for most of the season, and, apparently in the seeding meeting, so enamored with the Merrill Blue Jays girls softball team ???

Because the seeding meetings are a free for all with zero accountability from the WIAA. If a conference has the advantage in numbers, they can put whomever they want at whatever seed they choose. Doesn't matter what the numbers say, teams will get placed where coaches decide.
As for Merrill, I can't tell you why people think they're deserving. Beating SPASH still holds some weight although I've been told they're down this year. But there are some bad losses on their schedule too.

Almost reminds me of the 2017 Rice Lake team, knocked off Chippewa Falls but fell to other teams in the conference and other non conference games and  and had a high ranking, they would eventually win state that year but still.

Mosinee being in an interesting situation them selves, playing in a weak conference and sounds like they put everything into the regular season to only get taken out pretty good by Merrill. Regardless with Mosinee, Kewaskum and Whitnall out, D2 becomes a wide open race as it always seems to be year after year. We never see any back to back titles in this Division, or a team to come back a year or 2 later and win it. I Guess that's what makes D2 interesting year in and out.

How about next year we get Dodgeville and Poynette in different sectionals. 2 years in a row Dodgeville was probably the 2nd best team in the state, and still no trip to Goodman Diamond to show for it.
