So back in the fall and winter I would use this stuff a little. I would take two scoops of the stuff and mix it with milk after working out. I never really knew if it was helping or not. It does say to take 1 serving 4 times a day, but the stuff is gross as hell and I didn't know if it was necessary, or just a way to get you to run out of the stuff quicker. Has anyone else used this stuff and is it really all that benefical to use it every time after I work out? I've been thinking of using it again so any help would be great.

Edit: The kind that I bought is the whey protein elite series, from the makes of muscletech.

I looked online and it can't hurt using the stuff, I think I'll try chocolate when I'm done with strawberry (it's horrible). Vanilla isn't much better.

I use muscle milk mixed with soy milk now because I am lactose intolerant.

Not a whey product, but I think it's better for a snack than a box of twinkies.
I also have it for breakfast most of the time.

I like "Chocolate Malt" flavor.

I have been using whey protein for years and only take it after workouts. Most tubs of whey protein will tell you to use it a couple of times a day, I never did that. I just use whey protein as a way to get a lot of protein in my body quickly after a workout. I have used chocolate milk the same way whenever I ran out of whey protein as a substitute. As for which whey protein to use, I have just found one that tastes good (GNC's brand of chocolate whey protein) and stuck with that. In my opinion, most whey proteins do the same deed but the prices differ for little or no reason.

To answer your question right to the point, I do think whey protein is beneficial to take right after a workout, but any type of protein will probably do the same thing (milk, pb&j).

I have been told also that whey protein is broken down by your body quicker when you mix the powder with water. That will probably make the shake taste different also.

I have never tried strawberry, but I have had vanilla and chocolate caramel and would have to basically force it down my throat without puking. I have found that chocolate tastes 100 times better than most for me.

I enjoy strawberry protein (at least my brand.) It is a lighter flavor than chocolate which is nice after a workout. My advice is go with the most generic flavors there are. I will never go for the Chocolate Cookie Batter, Carmel, etc flavors. More advanced seem to taste worst.

Thanks for clearing up that your a manly man. I was't too sure before I read this.

BTW I think it is better to have your after workout shake with water since milk makes it take longer for your body to break down the proteins.

I'm skeptical of this. The milk in the protein doesn't actually do anything, there's no chemical reason why what you're mixing it in would change things. The milk isn't changing anything about the powder, it's just mixing with it. And "whey" is milk protein, so it's pretty much milk protein mixed with more milk protein. My guess on the stomach ache might just be that LG drank too much of it, keep in mind every serving of milk you mix with it is an additional 8 or so grams of protein.

If you guys don't like the taste, I gotta tell you--the GNC stuff is incredible. I know GNC overprices their stuff to an unreal extent so that they can offer their big discounts, but their generic chocolate whey protein mix is fantastic tasting. When I wrestled I would mix it with milk every night as a treat (it's pretty low calorie for what you get out of it).

Optimum Nutrition 100% Whey, less than 70 cents a serving. Worked out great for me.

I use it after I do Insanity, or weight lift. I can't really tell if it gives me noticeable results, or if it's just Insanity. I'm leaning towards the results of the isane workout of Insanity.. I will say this though: recovery and lack of soreness the next day is much more evident than when I used it before. I can push myself to the limits then consume it and not be sore the next day. It's great, and I've lost 30 pounds of fat so far since I've used it. Low calorie + high protein is great.

BTW, if you mix it with milk that is probably the reason you don't like it or have negative effects from it.. Extra calories, and you are honestly getting "too" much nutrition in one serving based on daily needs.

I have it for breakfast and after a workout now. It's only 22 grams of protein per serving, so not more than your body can absorb. I'm the strongest I've ever been and still losing weight. 100% whey by Optimum Nutrition is what i recommend to anyone who is not trying to bulk but merely trying to get into better shape/get stronger.

I have never heard that there is possibly 'too much' or more than you can absorb when it comes to protein. Is this a in a meal type thing, or all day or what? I try to put down a bunch of protein after I lift in the AM, but don't want to be wasting money (even though eggs and PB don't cost much), I would rather save those for later in the day or whatever if it is something like you can only take in 30g of protein or whatever in a few hours.

thanks guys
