Feature article on Suzy Favor-Hamilton in the latest edition of Sports Illustrated (9/14/15 issue). The article, for the most part, is a collection of excerpts from her book. Very candid & graphic. Suzy doesn't cheat the readers on the details. One aspect of her story that may surprise readers is that her husband was totally in on the escort scheme, approving and enabling.

Isn't that the American way these days? Find something/somebody else to blame for your poor life choices?

I'm four chapters in and I'm wondering, despite it being almost 30 years ago, if chapter 3, Go Badgers, could present some problems for Bucky as Suzy alludes to her psychology prof allowing her to blow off her final and manage a C. Another issue is how the hell did she even get into Madison as Suzy herself admits her grades were not very good.

Does it look good? Probably not.

NCAA impact? Nil, as you mentioned it was 30 years ago.

Surprising to me? Nope.
I'm not saying some things the WIAA does are wrong, ... I'm just saying, "I find it weird."

female scholarship athlete -very obvious why she got in

without her athletic background she would have had a hard time getting into UW-Point etc.

While making her first public appearance in Madison in quite some time, Suzy Favor-Hamilton discusses her battle with mental illness and her road to recovery:

Just read the book Travis. I agree 100% on her lack of taking responsibility. I have had the book for a while now but just read it over the weekend. What a crock load of 'rationalizing' Favor uses to blame everything on 'mental illness'.
Many(if not most) of her choices were simply her own fault and pure common sense tells any of us that. Sounds like her brother had some real mental illness problems though. Her bulimia/anorexia problems seem to be that of imitating others, then she actually got some info and realized it wasn't healthy. I don't call that mental illness in her case. Many many woman do actually suffer from behavior of that type that is mental illness. If she can take a nutrition coarse and
realize what she was doing was unhealthy(and stop it) -that simply isn't mental illness - it is mimicking BAD behavior.
She seems to want to link every bad choice she made to mental illness. I just don't buy it. Amazed her husband stuck around??????????

Such a ME ME ME person makes me want to puke! I have to admit reading this book was a pure waste of time.
Her FAKE 'biography' (for lack of better words) is pure garbage. Reminds me of what is now being referred to as BERNIE MADOFF syndrome - people get so stuck on themselves and their false narratives, they actually come to believe them somehow.

Yes, I do realize this book is all about MONEY. Just got more and more irritated with her as I read the book. So much talent and she worked so hard, yet she seemed to avoid the part of actually getting educated.

Things were a lot different in the mid 80's. Everyone got into state schools, even UW Madison. C average got you in.
