Sun Prairie passed a referendum to build a new HS on the west side of town. It will open in 2022 with a capacity of 1658 which would keep it in D1.  Current enrollment is about 2500 so both schools would most likely remain in D1 depending upon how they split the boundaries and such.

I have long been a proponent of the largest schools in the state splitting, so good on ya! Sun Prairie.

I do wonder what this means for the Big 8, which stands at 10 schools. Would they find a 12th and split?

Also, within a relatively short period, the schools will each be around 1400-1600 or so.

Makes you wonder who will have to leave the Badger to make it a 12 team conference, no way the members or WIAA will want an 11 team conference. Waunakee, De Forest, MG, Stoughton?

Waunakee to the Big 8 has been a move in the making for years.

Fair chance that Edgewood will depart for a smaller conference, perhaps the RVC. Their enrollment has dropped significantly.

They are doing just fine, outside of football (look at WSN Cup standings). I don't think they'd want out totally. Their admin has been resistant to it in football even.

the two Sun Prairie schools could co-op with each other until they sort the details.
