Brewers look to bounce back after dropping the series at Wrigley with a four-gamer against the NL East leading Phillies.

Philadelphia made the big off-season splash by signing Bryce Harper, but as of yet, he remains a barely above replacement-level player. Offensively, it's Jean Segura, Rhys Hoskins and Cesar Hernandez leading the way while the pitching has been led by Zach Eflin, who'll go in the finale. Lefty Adam Morgan (1.38 ERA, 0.69 WHIP) and Hector Neris (2.35 ERA, 1.04 WHIP) have spearheaded a solid Philly 'pen.

Game 1:  Freddy Peralta (2-1, 6.75)  vs.  Aaron Nola (3-0, 4.57)
Game 2:  Brandon Woodruff (5-1, 4.25)  vs.  Jerad Eickhoff (2-1, 1.50)
Game 3:  Gio Gonzalez (1-0, 1.69)  vs.  Jake Arrieta (4-3, 3.78)
Game 4:  Zach Davies (4-0, 1.54)  vs.  Zach Eflin (5-3, 2.47)

Too many LOB and some subpar bullpen work doomed the Brewers to a 7-4 loss in the opener.

Brewers are promoting Keston Hiura today.  If I'm Travis Shaw I'm pretty nervous right now.  Shaw is going to the IL withan apparent injury and to make room for Hiura on the 40 man roster Corey Spangenberg has been released.
If you want to drink all day, you have to start in the morning.

Any Major Leaguer struggling to catch up to 90 MPH mid-thigh heat should rightfully be nervous.

Shaw looks lost at the plate right now.  Hopefully he can starting seeing the ball.  Does shaw have any minor league options left?
I hope Hiura can pitch 😏

Shaw has I believe two minor league options remaining.  If Hiura hits then I have to believe Shaw goes down to San Antonio after his apparent wrist injury heals.  Right now he looks like the second coming of Allen Craig.

Man, I did not see that coming.
Good deal for Huira, he did well.

Baseball is a funny game.

I was wrong on him, at least for today.

Brewers take game 3, 5-2, behind another strong start from Gio Gonzalez. All the Brewers production came from the top five in the order with seven hits and four RBIs.

Manny Pina left the game with hamstring tightness and will go on the DL, er, IL according to Counsell. He will be replaced by either Jacob Nottingham or David Freitas.

Brewers bats came alive today to the tune of an 11-3 victory over the Phillies to take the series. Christian Yelich homered twice, Yasmani Grandal added his second three-run bomb of the series and Mike Moustakas added a two-run homer in the ninth. Ryan Braun had a three-hit day and Zach Davies even reached a couple of times. One downside was both Ben Gamel and Keston Hiura K'd four times each in six and five plate appearances respectively. Davies had another quality start (6 IP, 4 H, 3 R, 1 ER, 1 BB, 5 K) and Matt Albers and Adrian Houser closed out the final three innings facing the minimum of nine batters.
