As week three of the 2018 football season approaches, conference play in the MVC begins. The conference is always very competitive, and that is no different this year. The MVC champion title is wide open this season, and every team will have to make a statement in week three on why they are legitimate conference contenders.

Central had two very impressive wins against Eau Claire North and Memorial in its opening games. Holmen, on the other hand, dropped both of their games to solid Big River teams in Chippewa Falls and Menomonie. Central returns several starters and key players this season while Holmen lost quite a bit of talent. This should be a very entertaining game.

Aquinas lost its first game to a pretty good Prairie du Chien team and got its first win in two years to Pacelli with a large margin. Onalaska lost its first game to River Valley with a last second field goal, but they came back and crushed Mosinee the following week. Aquinas will be playing their last year in the MVC. Despite making a large improvement from last year, Aquinas likely won't have enough to take down Onalaska.

Logan lost its first game to Eau Claire Memorial in a very close game. In week two, however, they shut out North by a score of 49-0. Sparta also split its first two games. They had an impressive win over Black River Falls, but they had a one-point loss against 10th-ranked (D5) Westby. This should be a relatively close game, but Logan will probably be able to handle Sparta.

Tomah dropped game one to a pretty good team in Mauston. They turned around and had a big win over Black River Falls with a margin of 42 points. West Salem had a good win against an improved Arcadia team 28-7. They also took down Coulee powerhouse G-E-T in a very close and defensive game by a score of 14-6. West Salem hosts Tomah in what should be a pretty easy game for them.

My predictions:
Central @ Holmen: Both of these teams could win the conference outright, and I believe Holmen will take the W in a very close game.
Aquinas @ Onalaska: Aquinas has improved greatly from last season, but it will not be enough as Onalaska will beat Aquinas pretty easily.
Logan @ Sparta: One of these teams that could sneak into the playoffs depending on how conference play works out, but Logan should leave as the better team.
Tomah @ West Salem: Tomah will struggle against a solid West Salem team as West Salem will get the easy win.
Just found out there was a forum section at WSN...
