Quite a few colleges have been making coaching changes.

Michigan State made a change, hiring Danton Cole (meanwhile there was concern by the Spartans fans if Wisconsin native Mason Appleton was leaving), Red Bereson finally retired at Michigan, the coach who revived Michigan Tech hockey- Mel Pearson- replaced Berenson. (Pearson had been an assistant for Berenson prior to MTU), what else, let's see...

Northern Michigan made a change, bringing in a bright young assistant coach from the Minnesota Gophers named Grant Potulny.

Michigan Tech's new coach- Joe Shawhan- just hired UWSP' s head coach to assist him up at Tech. Have heard a lot of great things about him too. One would expect him to one day be a head coach at D1 but anyways here's the story:

Ashwaubenon native/Notre Dame Academy grad Mason Appleton will not be returning to play hockey for Michigan State University.

He just signed a 3 year deal with the Winnipeg Jets:

Wisconsin native Luke Strand returns to coach in the USHL:

http://siouxcityjournal.com/sports/hockey/amateur/musketeers/strand-returning-to-coach-musketeers/article_b008ffa5-f4a5-5b4b-bb35-4851469d642d.html

I came across that article while looking into an "up and coming" coach. Marquette, Mi native Andy Contois is moving up to an assistant coaching position with the Bloomington Thunder. The Thunder are also in the USHL.

As a player, Contois played junior hockey in the NAHL under Jon Cooper, then moved up to the USHL and played here for the Green Bay Gamblers under Mark Osiecki. After playing college hockey for Northern Michigan, Contois played professionally over in Europe for about 10 years. He just "loves hockey" and wanted to play as long as he could. He started coaching 2 years ago as an assistant in the NAHL.

Anyways one of the Bloomington coaches moved up to coach at Colorado College- creating the coaching opportunity. Read what attracted Bloomington to hire Contois- besides his hockey experience- were from what all of his former players had to say about him!

Just had to share that. []
