Talked about this in another thread.  The more I read the more or sounds like he was tired of trying to do it clean when no one else was.  Decided to give it a go in the NBA.

The insiders I follow are not picking up on the Juwan Howard talk at all.  Lots of people are throwing mud at the wall to see what sticks but it sounds like the focus is Billy Donovan and Chris Beard at this point.

Even OKC beat writers are talking about the possibility that Donovan might leave.  Sounds like he doesnt have much for job safety from their backsliding year after year.  Michigan will likely give him a raise so it's a good situation.

After the top candidates it sounds like the big question is will Beilein take his assistants with or not.  Many are speculating if they cant hit a home run they will give it to Yaklich for a year as an interim and either let him keep it if things go well or find someone next year.

Billy Donovan would be a strong hire for Michigan and a strong hire for the B1G.

Things appear to have taken a turn for the worse today.  It sounds like they have struck out with the top targets.  Some boosters are pushing hard for the Juwan Howard hire.  Apparently the AD is looking hard at Shaka Smart, but in a twist, top assistant Luke Yaklich is currently interviewing with Smart in Texas.  So basically I have no idea where this is all going.  Also top 50 recruit Jalen Wilson has asked to be released from his LOI.  In just a week I went from extremely excited for next season to wondering if they will even field a team  (joking, but seriously.)

Dawg, I looked for Beilein activity on other threads before starting this thread ... I couldn't find any.  Where did you post before this thread ?

Also, other than on the link I provided with my opening post, are you hearing any rumblings out of Ann Arbor pertaining to UM being interested in former Louisville head coach Rick Pitino ?

0% chance that they even talk with Pitino.  Between the Fab Five scandal and then the one that followed in the late 90s that got the program nuked for 15 years, they are not going near a coach that is suggested to be dirty and Rick Pitino is 110% dirty.

We talked about it a little bit here.  https://playground.wissports.net/post/201920-way-too-early-menaposs-top-25-10105107?pid=1308564103

Glad to hear it ! My opinion of Pittino mirrors yours.  Dirty as can be !

I had always heard that Donovan was tight with Urban Meyer stemming from their Florida days and that Donovan would end up at OSU if and when things aligned with openings and availability. FWIW.

I couldn't see this, not even a little.  Unless Ohio St Basketball made a meteoric jump, Billy Donovan is always assuredly going to have better offers than Ohio St.

Not to mention he has no ties to Ohio St.  He and Meyer might be friends (I can honestly say I've never heard that) but why would he want to be at OSU?

At this point, I will be VERY surprised if Juwan Howard is not the next Men's Basketball Coach at the University of Michigan.

Here is to hoping that he does for Michigan what Penny Hardaway is doing for Memphis.

I wouldn't jump to any conclusions about the job that Hardaway is doing just yet. He only has one year under his belt and he went 22-14. Time will tell if he is doing things above-board.

Hardaway and Memphis have the #1 ranked recruiting class for 2019-20.

Memphis' No. 1 recruiting class is ready to go No. 1 James Wiseman No. 14 Precious Achiuwa No. 37 Boogie Ellis No. 48 DJ Jeffries No. 56 Lester Quinones No. 98 Malcolm Dandridge No. 108 Damion Baugh

Former Wolverine Fab Five alum, Juwan Howard is UM's man:

Interesting, but my comment still stands. If the manner in which he assembled the #1 ranked recruiting class is suspect then there will be a lot of questions. A lot of people are still in shock that someone like Sean Miller has been caught on tape talking about payments. Besides, just having the recruits doesn't mean that he can coach them or that they are willing to be coached.
